How many minutes do you need to be outside for in order to produce your Vitamin D for the day? Does it have to be all at once or can it be in little bits? Do you need to be outside longer in the winter in order to get the same amount?

Whether you'll produce any Vit. D also depends on the season and your latitude. If you're north of Atlanta you probably won't produce enough in the winter months.

I would imagine you'd get some exposure on a lightly overcast day, but definitely not in the shade.

I agree. It's direct sunlight (without sunscreen) that gives you Vitamin D.

No, the skin needs direct exposure from the sun.

I know that Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin. Do you have to be in direct sun or can you be in shade and your body still makes Vitamin D?
