That is great that you are going to tackle your weight emoticon !!!!
You don't need a gym membership to get fit and get exercise. Walking is a brilliant exercise to start off with. It is free, it gets you out in the fresh air. You can meet people on your walks, it can be very relaxing as well. CXhanging a few every day habits is a good start to lose weight. Be serious that you are going to do it. I say that because although I have been big since I was a young child, I started my first ever diet when I was thirteen. I lost weight in that first ever attempt-some weight. But before long I put more on and have been yo yo dieting ever since. Which is not a good thing. If you can even change some daily habits so that you learn new healthier ways that will be a great start.
I don't know if you live on your own, work , live with family or what. But it sounds like you buy your food. And you are right that healthy food often costs more than junk food. Eliminating or really cutting down on junk food is important. Decide what healthy food you do like and can afford. Apples and fruit are good, vegetables. If you really want to lose weight, you must find the time. And it is much better to tackle it while you are young. Otherwise you may quite likely put on as you get older . Your health is the most important reason to address your weight, because the more you carry around it is only a matter of time and it will start to effect your health. Cutting down or even out sugar and buttery foods is a good idea. Using Spark People and sticking with it . Be positive, you could read motivational stories. There is lots of information in spark people. You could do lots of reading in spark people of things that will help you. Read what comments people have told you, as well as a little research in Spark People site(here). And pick the things that you think will help you. emoticon

Hello and welcome very big guy. Junk food is in fact much more expensive than healthy food. Try usin g the money you normally spend on any food (you must have been eating somthing or you would't be the very big guy), and try spending it on the good food. There are lots of suggestiond here on sparkspeople.com. Take an apple for example, it is much cheaper than a chocolate bar. Start your wAy through the whole website and you willfind lots of good advice.
Best of luck!

Just read that Jared from SUBWAY weighed 425# when he decided to eat at Subway and he lost 245# in the first year. He's now at 200# and he's 6'2" and this is 15 years later that he has kept the weight off. You can do it.

emoticon emoticon emoticon WELCOME TO SPARK!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.

A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.

1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.

2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.

3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.

The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family!

Hi, I am 18 and 325 pounds. I am very desperate to lose weight and I I'm way too poor to afford a gym membership and the healthy foods. (Why do healthy foods cost so much?) I need tips on how to lose weight if I don't even have the time or money to buy anything. Tips anyone?
