Yes, I live in Georgia and we've had record rains. And, yes, I told my classes that at times I feel like I'm in an airplane and my ears need to pop.

NVR2LATE2BFIT: Are you in the southeastern US? I live in the southeast and we've had loads of rain this summer. I actually had a pharmacist say that the barometric pressure could be a problem. Does your ear feel like it has a cotton ball pushed down into the ear canal or like something similar is stuck in your ear? Just curious. Thanks for your response.

I have been battling with vertigo for the last 6 - 8 weeks and it is very difficult because I am a group fitness instructor. I was diagnosed in 2008 with Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) which is the most common disorder of the inner earís vestibular system and is a vital part of maintaining balance. I have had very few episodes of it since 2008 until this year. It has really been bad this summer and I'm told it is probably because of all of the crazy weather and barometric pressure changes. I'm not saying that is what yours is. Mine comes on when I bend over to pick up my weights or sudden movement of my head. I would definitely get into the doctor to have it diagnosed. I know how miserable it is to try to workout when the room is spinning and you feel "out of control." Take care of YOU! The strength training can be resumed later. That's my advice for what its worth. :)

My blood pressure is good..stays fairly consistent. I donate platelets every other week and they check my blood pressure checked.
When this first started, I thought it was because I was dehydrated from running. I started running (run/walk intervals) at the start of July. It took me most of July to get re-hydrated. When this was still a problem after drinking lots of Gatorade and giving up the 7.5 oz cans of coke, I thought, "Hmm...maybe it's because of all the rain and is causing problems with my sinuses/allergies." In the last few days, I have even considered that I may have ear wax blockage. Everything I have looked at (dehydration, allergies/sinus issues, ear wax built up) all mention dizziness/vertigo. It's just frustrating because I feel fine and fully capable of doing my strength training, but I hate the room spinning thing when I do certain exercises.
I know my posts/responses are wordy. I give a lot of details.

I think going to a doctor is very important. I hope that you can get some answers when you see your dr.

You really need to see your doctor. Vertigo usually happens when blood is not getting to the brain. If you are holding your breath, this is probably the cause.Get your blood pressure checked too If it is lw you may get dizzy just standing up quickly. Get a professional opinion

Yes, I think it is ok to listen to your body and not do the exercises that cause vertigo-like symptoms until you see your doctor. There are lots of possible causes so getting checked by your doctor is a good idea. I have had issues with vertigo before and know just how unsettling it is, so you have my sympathies.

Your doctors approval would be important in case it's something serious. I get dizzy when I am dehydrated or not drinking enough fluids. I also stand too fast, bend over for any period of time and I take Cymbalta that may also make it worse. Good luck!

I am going to be calling my doctor tomorrow to set an appointment to find out if I have vertigo or if there is another issue. It is annoying because it is really messing me up with my strength training. You'd think that it would cause problems for my cardio, especially when I try to run but it's not. It's more of a problem when I do certain exercises, like the bridges, bridge-ups, and single leg bridge-ups. I can leave them all out, leave out one, or only do one, but then I feel like I'm slacking off on my strength training. I have other exercises that I do that cover some of the same areas of the body (lunges (several variations), squats, standing abduction, hip flexor, seated torso twist with medicine ball, one arm dumbbell row, modified pushups, plank - may be modified).
I have it scheduled to do strength training 3x/week (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday) for about 30 to 40 minutes. I haven't done it today because of this issue with my ear (left ear) and the dizziness. Basically, I am wondering if you guys think it's ok to miss a day or two of strength training until I figure out what is going on?
