eating a vegetarian diet has nothing to do with weightloss. or rather it has about as much to do with weightloss as what color shirt you decided to wear today. if you really want to break out of a food rut, you could try switching to all veg meals. or you could simply head to the library, get a vegetarian cookbook and start trying out some of the recipes. or you could check out fatfreevegan.com , veganlunchbox.blogspot.com , or vegweb.com and incorporate some of those recipes. you don't have to do it all at once, you can just try one or two new meals a week and see how you like it. if it works, great, keep going. if it's not quite to your tastes, head back to the library or any recipe site on the web and keep trying new things until you feel like you are out of your rut.

Vegetarian or vegan websites are excellent for good recipes -- just pick a few things that look good and try them out. What the other poster said about different styles of eating is true: vegetarian eating means a lot of one-dish meals (or one dish plus a grain) -- think veggie lasagna or pasta salad or red beans and rice for some familiar examples. As long as you include a good amount of meals with legumes or pulses (beans, chickpeas, lentils) and grains, or cheese or eggs, it's hard to go wrong.
I'm interested in incorporating more veggies, or veggie-like meals. I did an inventory of the kinds of meals we were eating on a constant basis, and I realized, that we rarely go with a meal that does not have meat in it. I.E. more meats and potatoes. I am kind of getting tired of just eating the same meals week after week too. My daughter has inquired about a Daniel fast, and I am also researching it. The vegetarian diet seems to have more preparation rather than just defrost something from the fridge.
I am a full-time vegetarian and would be happy to help, not really clear on what you are wanting to know about eating vegetarian. It might help if we knew why you where considering following this lifestyle--seems like you are only interested in doing this for a short time?
My biggest advice would be not to replace meat in your diet with faux-meat veggie substitutes, which are highly processed and expensive. Vegetarians tend not to construct meals like meat eaters (around the protein). I eat lots of beans, lentils, some tofu, small amounts of cheese, and use Almond milk on my cereal and to bake with. For example, I enjoy soups of all kinds, sloppy joe's made with cooked lentils rather than ground beef,use tofu in lasagna rather than cheese, and add cooked beans to salad--like a southwest style salad with black beans and corn.
