Been a vegetarian for a couple of months and my daughter's a vegan who's been trying to get us to "convert." It's not that bad.

My husband ate vegan for about two years. It can be expensive if you are purchasing vegan meat substitutes. I'd agree with your vegan cheese assessment! :) it's not good! And smells horrible! However, as a vegetarian- I'd have to say the meat substitutes have come a long way. The sausages and hotdogs have the same flavor and texture with less fat and sodium then the real thing. I recently branched out and tried veganase- the vegan version of mayo. The texture is different but I was surprised to find it tastes the same.
I went to my nieces New Years Party last night for a few hours. My niece is vegan so she had vegan foods and non vegan foods. I tried vegan chicken nuggets with orange sauce mmm good. I tried vegan fish tastes like dried out fish stick but still edible. I had vegan cheese did not like that. I had vegan sausage two different types and I liked them both. I had vegan chicken salad and that was good too. She went all out and it was a very fun and interesting party. Not sure I can afford to go vegan, and not sure I really want to, it taste much more bland but I can eat it just fine. I bet it is costly and that is what will stop me.
