You answered your own question:"in terms of which exercise I prefer, that's ellipticals all the way." Exercise equipment isn't magical. I doesn't work if your don't use it. Pick what you really want and will use. And if both money and space are tight, what about selling the bike? It would help solve both problems if you aren't using it.

And, as a person who loves cycling, I do not enjoy my trainer and have to force myself to use it just not to get deconditioned.over the winter. Even a high-quality trainer doesn't have the right feel.

I was thinking about grabbing a trainer for my bicycle- it never gets used these days (I used to live in bike-friendly Portland, and now I live in less-bike-friendly DFW and don't feel comfortable riding), but when I looked into it I realized that I could probably get a used elliptical, my preferred exercise machine, for a similar price as a decent trainer.

I thought I'd ask if anyone here had any thoughts or suggestions for me. I'm looking for something I can use at home while I watch TV, and it'll save money (which is very tight right now) over having a gym membership as well as being easier to cram into my day.

In terms of sheer space efficiency, putting a trainer on the bicycle we have around anyway is the way to go...but in terms of which exercise I prefer, that's ellipticals all the way.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'd also appreciate feedback on specific trainers and/or what to look for when picking up an elliptical.

Thanks!
