I had a Chicago style dog for supper last night...and I tracked it...and I stayed in MOST of my ranges (probably not sodium)...and it was worth every delicious bite! I only indulge in that a few times a year.
I'm not diabetic, but I try to do what KJ said in the OP - eat something every 2-3 hours. Normally I keep apples, clementines, KIND bars, UBER bars, homemade trail mix (walnuts, pumpkin seeds, raisins, cashews), etc. with me all the time. I have snacks in an insulated cooler bag in the trunk (not an issue now, but in the summer...) and usually something in my purse.
I cannot tell you how many times that's kept me from hitting the drive thru!
last weekend I was out running errands and got so hungry. I was putting the stuff from the wholesale club in the car and kept ONE item to put up front for me to munch. The Canadian bacon LOL! That's become a 'go to' snack for me. Low cal, low fat, high protein, and YUMMY!
Wow! Two comments made here were the same two comments my gf mentioned.
I don't use on my foods because food is naturally salty and I don't usually eat salty foods so my body may be salt sensitive, she said and she also told me that I should have unsalted almonds, preotin bars and bottles of water in my car just in case this should happen.
I've had it happen too... I know not everyone is salt sensitive, but I sure am and see it immediately the next day.. so then I am aware of having adequate water intake and a series of meals that are not at all salty or processed for a day or two to recover. I feel a lot better when I don't overindulge
well, at least it's not fat gain. You can lose salty/bloated weight. I have a question that just popped in my head. I'll post in another topic since I don't want to get off topic here. It's about sweating and weight loss.
Since late November I re-started watching my calorie intake, I am pretty on target with about 2.5lbs lost per month without losing muscle mass (hard as heck to do that) so this past weekend I averaged 188.6 and have overall been weighing in under 190 for the last 10 days.
Yesterday I stayed at work late and didn't plan on staying there that long and got hungry (*note: if I ever feel hungry I've already messed up, I eat every 2 - 3 hours so my body never goes into starvation made) and my blood sugar was starting to drop (bad for a diabetic!).
I get my coat on, get in my car and stop at the local Quickie Mart and get two beef hot dogs, a bag of oversized regular chips (their smalledt size) and a diet coke.
That was at 6:30 and I missed my fat-free yogurt time at 8:30 because I wasn't hungry then went to bed around 10.
This morning I was up 1.6 pounds.............
Note to self: Bad *SALTY* food equals WEIGHT GAIN!!!!!
