As Becky said, if you have that many concerns about protein powder you should talk to your doctor. As far as getting 150 grams of protein a day, it really isn't all that hard. I don't know how much your band limits you, but I get 150 each day fairly easily without overeating or needing shakes. 8 oz chicken for dinner, then those leftovers for lunch the next day. Eggs for breakfast (can be done in 2 min in microwave in morning) and then if you still need more or like snacking as I do, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, beef jerky, or canned tuna make great fill ins.

I am scheduled for skin-removal surgery following 175-lb weight loss after bariatric surgery. One of the things that the plastic surgeon recommended was to get 1 gram of protein for each pound of body weight, each day until surgery (about 4 weeks away). I weigh approximately 150 today.

With my bariatric stomach (I had a sleeve), eating 150 grams of protein a day is not really possible. I've been looking at a mixture of RTD protein shakes (I currently have a lot of the Atkins Advantage), and GNC's GNC Pro PerformanceŽ AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60. The GNC product is hydrolyzed protein, and they (GNC salespeople -- who may have motive not to be 100% honest with me!) tell me that it is safe, and that because it is hydrolyzed, I can take more than the 25-30 grams of "regular" protein I would normally have in a single serving.

I'm looking for some fact-based confirmation of these claims; several pages on the internet talk about the hydrolyzed protein having MSG as a naturally-occurring consequence of its digestion, and the fact that that can lead to significant problems.

More importantly to me is the ability to consume that much protein in a single serving. I don't want to consume 60 grams at once if my body can only process 30; but if I CAN use all 60 grams at once, that will make my feeding schedule much easier to deal with.

Need some help, please!
