Hi and welcome =] It can be quite overwhelming when you're looking to lose weight, whether you can afford a program or not. Some programs seem like a great idea and turn out to be a real waste of money!!
I myself have always had trouble with "affording" weight loss. Programs I wanted to try but couldn't afford and wanting a gym membership but wasn't in the budget. Believe it or not, once you figure out what's fact and what's fiction, you CAN lose weight safely and permanently for free. It just requires a lot of motivation and will power. Everything you will ever truly need can be found on this site.
I've been a member off and on many many times over the last 10 years and I've tried to do it my own way thinking that certain aspects don't apply to me for whatever reason I could give myself but this tie I've stuck to it because I'm not focused on just a number and a deadline...this time I'm focused on getting healthy and I'm trying to work on my self esteem and my self confidence.
The best place to start...track your food and your exercise. Make things habit before you concentrate on other goals. Once you get comfortable with tracking, try and focus on how much of your food is carbs, protein and fat. Did you know that your plate should in fact be 1/2 fruit/veggies, 1/4 meat, and 1/4 starch?? This means that if you eat 3oz of meat you should match that same sized portion of potato or rice, or pasta and then double that portion when it comes to whatever vegetable you go to eat. Veggies (and fruit) have been down played so much over the years that most people believe we should have the starch as half the plate and the meat and veggies fill the other half. The fibre content and lower calories in the veggies are what make it so important to eat so much (doesn't have to be one kind of veggie either). This is how you stay fuller for longer and on less calories =]

I have recently quit weight watchers. Not because I wanted to but because I couldn't afford it anymore. Now I'm looking for a way to keep down the weight I have lost and hopefully lose more. I want to start eating right, but there seem to be so many opinions out there it can be overwhelming at times. I'm also looking for support and to make new friends along the way.
