Lunamatron, I sympathize. I swear it has seemed like WHENEVER I started a new or different resistance training regimen (or even a cardio one) my body wanted to hold onto that weight for a month. I think some of it is muscle gain, some of it is water-weight gain from muscles that are being "pumped up" and hydrated by the new workout.
It's SOOOO hard to be Marion in Raiders of the Lost Ark (Don't Look, Marion!!!) lol. But I really think avoiding looking at that scale is the best advice. You can tell by how your clothes fit that you're progressing. Focus on being healthy today, and then tomorrow focus on being healthy, and just take it one day at a time. I HATE that plateau/weight gain thing that happens when I try something new, but in the past that new thing has always given me stellar results :) Good luck to you!!!

I know how you feel. I felt like that too. But think about it, you didn't gain the weight in two weeks. It took longer right? So be nice to yourself. Treat yourself like a stranger. I'm sure we give more credit to total stranger why not for yourself? One more thing. When you do cardio at gym do you sweat? Where you can see the sweat on your T-shirt? How far does your sweat come down to? Does it pass your belly button? Only way we can loose weight is by sweat. Plus when you sweat you'll get beautiful facial too.

I read an article that says that you can gain weight in hte first too weeks after starting a new workout! i have found this to be true and after the two weeks I started to lose weight again! Don't be too hard on yourself by expecting too much! It will happen! It may be slower thatn we want, but it WILL happen!

I give all new members one piece of advice and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". if the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction. Remember, you're trying to change habits learned over a life time. That's not going to happen overnight, a week, a month or even a year. Change takes time. thus the need to be patient with yourself and your body.
That's why Spark People encourages its members to start with simple changes first. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. NO ONE ever became a healthy eater overnight. it's impossible. I can't imagine living a life where I wasn't allowed to eat something because I was worried I'd gain weight. That's not healthy. You don't have to give up bread, pasta or even sugar to be healthy. You're never ever going to eat a piece of bread ? That's not a diet I'd want to have.
You don't have to do anything drastic to be healthy. Start with some simple changes first so that you aren't overwhelmed. Example, if you're not eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. if you're not drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week. if you're not exercising, don't try to do an hour a day, set a goal to take a 30 minute walk each day for one week. Once you've achieved these goals, then you set new ones.
There is NO fast way to lose weight. While a safe weekly weight loss would be 1-2 pounds per week, there will be weeks you don't lose. there will even be weeks you gain ! And that doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. The weight doesn't magically start dropping off the minute we decide we need to lose. It really could take 6-8 weeks of healthy eating and regular exercise before a person sees a change in the scale. And that too is perfectly normal.
You really don't have to do anything drastic to be healthy. This isn't a diet. It's a lifestyle change, thus the need for patience with yourself and your body.
I'm just over 2 weeks in to my new workout regiment and trying not to get frustrated! I know the pattern well. I get off to a great start, get frustrated and overwhelmed then give up! I don't want to throw in the towel! I committed to not weighing myself for 2 weeks. Normally I obsess with the number. So two weeks in I weigh myself as planned and I've lost no weight. Okay, so there has been progress. I've stopped the obsessive negative thoughts and feel slightly more energetic. Diet wise, I'm trying not to set myself up for failure, so I've almost completely eliminated bread, pasta and recreational sugars, but anything else is fair game in moderation. Exercise wise I'm at the gym 5 days a week. 3 are cardio 30 minutes and weight training while 2 days is just cardio. Is this just a case of not being patient or am I missing something?
