60 is the new 30! My mother began Sparkpeople at 79 and is now 80 and has received 250 minute fitness awards for her aquafit many times. I't sounds like you're ready to embrace the SP program wholeheartedly and are sure to see results. One small goal step at a time and you are sure to see those ultimate goals become a reality!
I began my journey nine weeks ago. In the course of doing research for recipes I discovered the SparkPeople.com website and I am very happy I did. Already I have located some great recipes and some excellent insight into some issues with working out that were troubling me. I'll get into that a little later in the Exercise thread. There are great articles, videos and helps available but being new to the site am discovering there is a lot to learn to be able to take advantage of all this site has to offer. I am 68 and made a conscious decision in January to make lifestyle changes being motivated by a book (Body for Life) I read and some pictures I saw of a gentleman (coauthor - Dr. Jeff Life) who began a better lifestyle change in his 60's. Seeing the changes in his body made me believe, if he could do it at such an age, I could do it too. I am currently in my first 12 Week Challenge but have run into some issues (see more later in the Exercise thread) I am addressing. My goal is a healthy lifestyle weight of 165 lbs and a 34 inch waist. My son wants to see me with 24 inch "Guns" . We' ll see about that one. I will tell you, since starting my change I have lost 23 lbs, 1 3/4 inches from my waist, and reduced my LDL cholesterol from 2.9 to 1.2 this week. Looking forward to meeting the SparkPeople community and making new friends.
