You are all so very funny! Especially Lady!

I already swung back down 4 pounds, though there are still 3 sitting there....so let's see what happens! I know I always felt like this before, but I was so overweight and just not paying attention to my body...that now it so obvious...!

Exercise does help!

Wait 'til you get to perimenopause. I'm about to give up using the scale except once a month. Everything swings in a five pound window and you can't predict your cycles. Mine just came only 17 days since my last one ended. Sometimes they stretch to 34 days between, sometimes 16. I blow up when I ovulate and then when I bleed, but I can't predict either so I just end up beating myself up over the scale instead of being rational about it. Argh.

Don't fret, it is only temporary. I usually go up 1-2 lbs during that week.

Welcome to the wonderful world of being female! emoticon I have that issue too and choose not to record the weight. I do weigh myself to make sure nothing is too out of whack, though. Mostly, I am just happy my cycle is back to normal as I had two years of issues with it and wasn't losing, just gaining.

it's the hormones ...the evil hormones ..... they are out to get you....they want you pregnant....
they are tracking you...tying to trip you up....
Set a hormone trap..do not let them in ....oh you already did...do not bludgeon them into submission with a bar of chocolate....or a bag of chips.....
Eat good food, get your calcium...stay rested ..work outs scare them off...for a few weeks ....
But they always sneak back.....be prepared .....

I also gain a pound or two with my period and it always goes away with my period. I do weigh myself but don't get upset over it because I know it is normal for me.

Thanks everyone! Now that I am tracking the way I feel when I eat, and know what's going on with my body I can more easily identify what's not working.....last weekend I was starving beyond belief...and now I see this weight gain...I will watch to see if it happens again next month.

I think I agree that I might have to skip weigh in day on Mon/Tues until my cycle is over.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

It is normal. It is one of the times when the scale is lying to you

Definitely normal to gain weight during that time of the month. For me, I try to remember to not sweat that weigh in, and remember what it is from. But I don't use it as an excuse to binge on junk or not exercise. Exercise if not overdone actually helps me usually.

During my cycle, I don't take any weight seriously - higher or lower - because I can be all over the place. I usually wait until the next week. As I've hit goal weight, the variation seems less, but that may be because I changed my birth control pill around the same time.

I gain about 2 pounds the 3 days prior, then go back down the day after. At least thats how I think its been working, I only weight once a week. But yes, you do gain a little at the beginning. It's normal.

Yeah, it's temporary. For some women, the water weight vanishes 3 days into their period to a day or two after it ends.

I used to retain more, until I really got tough with my sodium intake. Right before, I watch it like a hawk (you can add it to your tracker) and I drink more water - I try to get in 10 glasses of water day...whew

Some months I gain 3 pounds or so before...last month I managed a loss of a pound right before.

completely normal! (and temporary) Before I started tracking my weight and calories/what I ate, I never noticed that I gained weight during TOM or worried about the food i ate during that time either. Funny how once we start actively tracking our food and weight we can get so worried about normal womanly things like this! (:

RAPUNZEL910,

What you're experiencing is not unusual. In fact it is quite common. Many women tend to "gain" weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope. it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days. If you've been tracking your weight, you've probably noticed that you see an up swing around this time.

It's really nothing to worry about. You may be feeling a bit bloated. It really is nothing more than water retention. I can easily gain as much as 5-7 pounds during my cycle. The human body can hold on to a lot of water.

But, once again, it's temporary.

I hope I'm posting in the right forum! I've been steadily losing 1 pound a week for the past 6-8 weeks. I'm consistent with my food and exercise. But this is the first month I noticed bloating and a little weight gain around "my time of the month"!

It seemed normal to me when I was eating poorly and I even used this time of the month to eat worse than normal....but I've been on track and mostly consistent since joining SP IN January.

Now I'm worried that I'm Gaining instead of losing this week. I'm also a little late this month.

Does anyone else experience this?

Thanks for responding!

S
