By the way, don't believe the 288. That's wrong. When you took the battery out and put it back in, you re-calibrated the scale. You did NOT lose 10 pounds in a week, and you never should. That would be dangerous. A safe rate of loss is about 1% of your body weight each week. For the first week or two it's okay if it's a little faster, but after that, you shouldn't expect more than 2.5 pounds without exercise, and possibly up to 3 with exercise. If you lose faster, you risk harming your muscles and bones and ending up worse than when you started.
Sorry for shouting, but the words "scale" and "day" don't belong in the same sentence. Nobody weighs the same on a Sunday and a Tuesday. It's absolutely normal for your weight to bob up and down during the week. There are hundreds of things that affect weight from day to day, and fewer than half of them have anything to do with food or exercise.
Weight loss doesn't happen in a straight line. If you graph it, it looks more like a mountain range. Women will eventually see a 28-day pattern to the biggest peaks and valleys, but there will still be smaller ones in between that just don't have any explanation. The less often you weigh, the fewer of those crazy ups and downs you'll see and the better you'll feel.
Pick a day of the week to weigh yourself, and weigh yourself at exactly the same time every week. If something unexpected happens, count back 28 days and compare your weight to that day. What matters is average change over time. The daily ups and downs are inevitable and totally meaningless. Weighing every day is a quick way to drive yourself nuts.

Okay. My top weight was 309 before I found SP I had managed to loose a lil.
SPDay 1 ..... 298.6 Day 3 ..... 292
I resist the urge to weigh every day and Day4 I weighed in at 293.7 and I was down. I was confused. I am not working out yet, but I faithfully count calories, cut my soda consumption from 4 to 1/2 daily, and increased my water from 0 to 6 daily. So, I should be losing some!
Then I was excited to weigh this morning and nearly thru up when the scale said 298.7 this morning! WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? I was devastated!!!! I picked the scale up and said a few choice words at it, ripped the back of and yanked the battery out. Grrr..... Took a deep cleansing breath and then weighed a 10# dumbbell on it and it read 10.0! okay, I am ready to try this again, that scale seems to be working correctly. I stepped on and it finally showed me the truth... I AM DOWN TO 288.2!!! I WILL TAKE IT! It took nearly a half hour for the knot in my stomach to go away. wow.
I know exercise is a key component and I will be incorporating at least 20 min. daily. As of today. I am so pleased that I found SP and I am grateful for the support I have found here.
