MRSJOCCO I got through that by simpoly counting days. I had a streak going, and didn't want to start over!
My actual quit date was October 1, 2003, but dinners out with friends (smoking was still permitted in many restraunts) and 'bumming' one at the end of the meal left me wigh new cravings for the following week. I finally said ENOUGH and did that for the last time February 6, 2004. I took a deep breath before I said NO the next time I was offered one. Each NO got easier, plus I felt really good about myself. I think that determination helped when I started my weight loss journey 3 years later.

for those who've quit & those who never started!
I wish the timing wasn't during the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays, though. You know, when we're apt to be around our extended family and in-laws!
The Great American Smoke Out is Thursday 11-17-2011 I used to be one of those defiant in denial smokers that called the day The great american smoke outside day And every year my New Years Resolution was to quit smoking and start exercising. That one day would come and go with looking forward to next year and try again. One day doesn't work. So I started my New Years Resolution at the beginning of December. having the whole month to get over it rather than one day. And what I learned is the fear of the unknown, what to expect and how to handle the cravings. I looked at the urges as large waves that over powered me. I set a date,on a Saturday, drank lots of water, kept busy, and chewed sugarless gum. I started ignoring the waves and soon they got smaller and smaller. After 3 days I was Free from the demons of nicotine. The restless feelings that I was having was the nicotine demons trying to leave my body and I helped them along. So that was back in 94 and I'm so glad I quit. If you are trying to quit smoking do whatever it takes. if not for yourself, for the ones that Love You
