You'll be okay, MumsWord... The fact that you're aware of your feelings is really good. Now you just have to have a realistic plan. Think about what you'll allow yourself to eat in advance, picture it, and then stick to it. You'll be able to enjoy what you love in moderation, but you'll feel proud of yourself afterwards that you didn't overindulge. Don't go hungry- eat lots of fruits and veggies before your big meal, so you're not famished sitting down at the table. Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!

Also remember that what you do most of the time has more of an impact than what you do once. If you get off track, get right back on and things will straighten out quickly.

Remember that you are the only one in control of the food that goes into your mouth. Don't let people bully you into overeating if you don't want to. Come up with a few "excuses" you can give if people are pressuring you to eat more than you intend. But if you choose to overeat, remember that it was your decision to do so and don't blame anyone or anything but yourself for that.
Remember that this is only one meal. If one meal can totally undo what you have worked for so hard, then you have an issue. Plan what you will eat. Most of the traditional foods will be served. take the appropriate portion. Workout before dinner or before you go or company comes. Workout after-- go for a walk.
Who says that you can't overindulge maybe a little tomorrow. As long as your next meal is healthy. As long as you get your exercise in and keep to your plan the next day.
If there are other parties or get togethers this weekend, plan for them. Don't get yourself all worked up. That just causes more stress and adds to the issues.
Just eat reasonable portions of your faves. If some of them are not exactly healthy, eat less of them; and eat more of the healthy food!

I think the key is portion control- and how you do that is not to go to Holiday dinners and parties super hungry.
Many people who have lost weight and kept it off have suggested before you go to a dinner or party, eat a healthy salad, or an apple and slice of low fat cheese, or a chunky vegetable soup.
This way you can enjoy dinner, but just in a smaller portion.
Also, eating slowly and drinking one 8 ounce glass before taking one bite helps.
For me, I am eating on the low end of my calorie range 3 days before, (my range is 1200-1450, so I am eating near 1200) this helps me to have 750 calories- I won't nessarily purposely eat them, but If I eat something homemade and underestimate the calories, I can still be within range.
Oh me too! I feel the same way---it's the first set of holidays here that I have to go through since I have lost alot of weight. I have so much more to go...
I really like the number of days with the sunglasses of not having fast food you have on your posts! I don't know how to do a tracker as I have tried but it won' take for some reason *sigh*. I like tracking how many days w/o fast food, great idea!
Your waves over there are nice too on your tracker! I appreciate the much needed support. It is the first holiday after many months of staying on track and losing weight. Like you said we can do this! We have come so far. I plan to have several bottles of water in arms reach and sip on them instead of mindless munching.
Does anyone know what foods to stay connected during Thanksgiving? I did the Sparks Thanksgiving quiz on this site and that was somewhat helpful. It said Mashed Potatoes are best though, but I guess it depends how they are made. I tend to shy away from potatoes for me.

This is the reason I do not like the holidays. Food that I can't afford to buy, all the different goodies. I will have to really watch it.

You'll make it through! Just plan ahead, measure your portions. Keep in tune with your body and when it signals it's full, it's full!
I understand about being anxious, especially if it's the first holiday where you're really trying to change habits.
Just remember that you are in control of you and you can do this!
I tell myself every year that I'm going to just eat small portions of whatever I like, but it never works out. Somehow, the phrase, "oh, it's just once a year" pops into my mind and I treat it like an all out binge until I'm stuffed to the gourd. I wish I could behave better this time, but I'm not gonna lie and say I won't.
Wow, Thanksgiving food is going to be everywhere. It is right now I am feeling pressureto eat more and eat what they are eating (what I used to eat!). I see the refrigerator stocked of food the relatives want, but me not so much. On Thanksgiving and day after there will be more dinner, there will be servings upon servings of food that will be all around me. It is closing in like a wall to me.
Has anyone ever felt like that during the holidays? How do you relieve this type of food anxiety-seriously!
