When we need to go to the store, we always have frozen veggies and brown rice. I actually bake my brown rice with a little bit of butter, cook frozen veggies on the stove, mix everything together and sprinkle with parm. Delicious.

Hello Everyone. Thanks for your suggestions and recipes. It's not that I don't like it, rather mine just came out BLAND. I needed some spices, variety and recipes to make it more appealing. Thanks I have tried with Chick Broth and that makes a world of difference and Now I will try some of the other recipes.

I don't understand why you have to eat it if you don't like it. I personally love brown rice just as it is but I also have some recipes of brown rice with lentils, or brown rice with black beans, corn and salsa. Go to All Recipes and type in brown rice. You will have lots of recipes that may appeal to you.

I have a rice cooker. The nuttiness of brown rice doesn't make it as flexible an ingredient as white rice but leftover brown rice can be used in vegetable stir fries, added to soup, and then there's my favorite rice dish: hot milk with rice and sugar. Use less sugar or even use Splenda. Add in some raisins (soak them first if you prefer them less chewy). Or go all out and use dried cherries and other fruits in small amounts. Even some hot applesauce mixed in gives brown rice for breakfast an interesting taste.
Add your leftover brown rice to soup or meatloaf or meatballs (with the usual chopped onions and parsley). Also good: when you make your homemade bread, throw in all of the above, knead it all together and get a denser loaf with lots of flavors, some of them sweet.
I do this with oatmeal: I make a very hearty soup with lots of oatmeal. If you chop it fine enough, there's no end to what you can add to homemade bread. The Japanese eat white rice for breakfast in a hot broth. On a cold morning, it's very tasty with soy sauce and chopped onion. But it is really more liquid-y than normal seasoned rice. Tastes good, though.

I actually just cook it with water but i usually put sauce from my protein over it before eating

I fixed some brown rice the other night that we loved. Cooked it in chicken broth and then when it was close to being done, I added some mushrooms, raw chopped walnuts and dried cranberries (sweetened with apple juice, not sugar). It was soooo good!

Some suggestions, maybe you'll find inspiration:
I usually sprinkle a teaspoon of olive oil over the drained rice after it's boiled. Or you can sprinkle some olive oil&garlic marinara over it. Or put in the boiling water some aromatic herbs. Or, before boiling or soaking the rice, try to roast it for two minutes in a pan to give it a more nutty flavor. You can quick fry (no oil added) some onions (and some diced red bell pepper) in a non-stick pan and add the cooked (boiled) and drained rice over it so the flavors would blend.
Or you can just browse the internet and experiment different recipes to discover what you really like to do with brown rice.

On the rare occasions that I have rice, I eat brown rice.
I tend to make it a small serving, and add lots of fat, and protein. I will cook chicken in water, and add oil, and spices, and when chicken is done, I will take it out, and cook the rice in the broth/oil. I will finish rice, stain it, and then in a frying pan, add a little more oil, and lots of vegetables, and cook for a few minutes. Then I add in the rice to dry it out a little, and last I add the chicken. Any meat will do though. The meat adds flavor.
I have a few points to comment on though.
Why would you regularly eat something that doesn't taste good to you. I season my chicken sometimes with garlic, and pepper, but it tastes amazing plain too. I was surprised to read about chicken " or other bland meats ". Meat is very salty, if you aren't consuming too much sodium, and fruits and vegetables are very sweet if you aren't consuming too much sugar.
The only reason I eat rice is economics. If I can't afford 36 pieces of chicken for the week ( 3 X 12 meals ), I cut back on the meat, and eat rice, since it is a filler food. Normally I jusy eat meat and vegetables.
Still, since it is an absorbent food, you can make it taste like whatever you combine it with in a dish, so if for some reason, you want to eat a nasty tasting food, you can combine it with something tasty, and manage to choke it down...lol.. Enjoy!!

Thanks everyone for these great suggestions. My brown rice taste better already. I thought about the broth idea and I will do that today. I will also experiment with seasonings. I am looking forward to dinner now.

I love brown rice! I have a hard time not eating way too much of it.
My recipe starts with 1 cup dry brown rice. Saute the rice in 1T olive oil and 1T caldo de gallina (the Latin American dry chicken bullion...can be found in the "Hispanic Foods" aisle) for a couple of minutes. Add 2.5 cups of water and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for about 50 minutes or until rice is done.

As PP said, cook the rice in a broth instead of water. I like to add spices to mine while it cooks as well. Garlic and ginger make a nice combo. Thyme is good. Experiment until you find something that you like.
Add some tasteful vegetables to it as well. If you like mushrooms, they are great 'cause they take on the flavor of the broth and spices very well. If not, add the vegetables you like.
Whenever I have leftover rice, I like to use it to make "fried rice." Just saute some frozen vegetables. Just before they are done, add the leftover cooked rice and your favorite marinade and cook about two more minutes. Adds great flavor and is a good side dish with anything. Or add your leftover meat to it and it's a one-pot, ten-minute meal.
SMILILY - I usually cook rice in extra water, about twice as much as recommended for the recommended cooking time. Then check it, taste it to see if it's done to your liking. When it tastes perfect for you. Drain the extra water off using a strainer and put the rice back into the pot. No more soggy rice!

A quick way to make brown rice more interesting is to cook it in broth as CLUELESSINKOREA had mentioned and then add some parmesan cheese. Yum!!!

I have had the exact same problem.
I've been eating brown rice for the past...six years...but I finally gave it up. I just got tired of it, however, fortunately, I can share what I have learned with you.
If you want to eat only rice and then other dishes beside it:
1) cooking brown rice in a broth instead of water is really good. You can use veggie broth, chicken broth, beef broth, or if you have an asian food market nearby, pick up some Dashi broth and cook it in that (my personal recommendation)
2) Buy low cost rice seasonings from your friendly neighborhood Asian food market. These are usually in the Japanese section and are called "Furkikake", there are dozens of flavors, sweet, sour, etc., and you can have a lot of fun trying them out.
3) If you don't have a friendly neighborhood Asian food market, you can check out the website justbento.com, she has a bunch of easy to make home-made furikake recipes.
If you want to eat rice as part of an overall dish, just throw it into a casserole or a soup, it's really good that way too...if I had an oven I would still be eating it in casseroles, but no oven here, sad days.
Hi does anyone have suggestions or a recipe for Brown Rice; I have eliminated the white rice, flour and bread. But when I make the brown rice, it is just not very good. What ingredients should I add to make it more tasty. If I have to eat it; I would at least like to enjoy it a bit. Thanks.
