I'm not sure I would use the word embrace exercise......I call it more finding something that fit my niche in life.
It took time. My first week trying to do anything was difficult. I tried different types of exercise routines I found here at sparks, from using the small dumbells, cardio core workouts, some sort of dancing, zumba and finally I found kickboxing work out. That seemed a lot easier as far as exercise, but still got cardio in. More arm movement, legs moving to the side and throwing your fist out there. The first time I tried it I was able to do maybe 4 mintues before I was exhausted, but I enjoyed it more then the others I tried to do.
Now I'm up to 10 to 12 minutes of kickboxing cardio. It took time to get there and finding something i enjoyed was trial and error but worth doing.
I hope that helps you when finding something for exercise.

Don't forget to get your protein and carbs in with all that work. If you have a chance and the product I suggest getting a crockpot with an auto shut off. This will help with meals when you don't have a lot of time to put something together. Throw everything in a crockpot (some great recipes here!) and go to work, once you get home everything is ready to eat.

Good luck Frogger emoticon

That's an awesome weight loss for one month! emoticon

I have many changes to make, but it seems like you are embracing the exercise part really well! This is what I struggle with, I know that changing your eating habits are only half of the solution, and the other half is to increase your activity level. This is encouraging news!

I have not been able to eat at home all day, I started working at 6:30am and just returned home now and am off in about an hour to work till 10:00pm. That was a bit of a bummer... It is ok though as I have a lot of vegetables I can cook when I get home to eat (no butter of corse,
or salt) but I really like vegetables. So I guess I will stick to that to stay in my calorie range.

Well mizzfit2 you have some celebrating to do! Great work!

Wooo Hoooo!
4 more pound gone. Total of 15 pounds in one month.
I was so happy to see 4 pound loss. I have been doing more cardio at home this past week and working hard to get exercise in every day.
I don't know if there is anything else I need to do. I'm thinking it is best to stick with what I am doing now and enjoy myself. It is nice to be able to have one or two pieces of candy and not feel guilty, as long as I don't go crazy. It's nice to feel like I'm still eating normal and not cutting out every single thing I love.
Tonight I need to bake some lemon bars for a party tomorrow, but I'm thinking of making this sweet potato recipe I found. I loved masked potatoes (my comfort food) and the scalloped verision I found that is a lot less calorie and fat sounds really good.

Good luck frogger.
I know it is a lot easier to stay focased and count those calories when you are making food for yourself.

Snow is in the forecast for about a week. I had been walking outside during my lunch hour, but with snow I will have to take my daily exercise to inside. No time or money for gym, everything done at home. I have some 3 pound weights and just turn on the fitness on demand channel.

Funny story, my cat that follows me gets annoyed with me doing my exercise at night. He actually swatted at me when I was in the middle of some cardio exercise.
I looked at him and he had that look that said pet me.

I have been on spark people about a month and lost 9lbs, would have liked more, but slow and steady is the pace to set. So I am having some success, I am having trouble setting up my exercise tracker, keeps freezing on me, and I am trying to add some forms of exercise I get regularly. I am an industrial cleaner, so I know that my days activities add to burning up calories. Believe me when I sat that I want to finish each job as quickly as possible.

I'm having a hard time staying on track with calorie counting, going here and there for non stop parties during the holidays. You have to eat something, but you never quite know how to count it.... I am hanging in though, waiting for a more 'normal' life with nowhere to go, and eating what I want. Also my work schedule has me working early mornings, sometimes morning to afternoon, and always evenings, I only have one day off per week, it's tough and when I work in the evenings I get home around 10pm-11pm, not an ideal eating schedule.

I also have insomnia and struggle to get to sells before 3am.... I find most things in life are a test of your character. I never let these things get me down, but the weight has come to the point where it is weighing me down. I am doing everything I can to get a normal sleep pattern, this will help a lot.

So no kids, but family, a lot of work, and hardly any sleep are my challenges. emoticon

How long have you been on sparks trying to lose weight frogger?
I was just curious of your progress.

My cat follows me once I get home, waiting for me to sit in the chair
I have a few things to get done today. Weekends turn into my sit and relax till noon day.
Relax being a realities term. Mostly I sit, watch some tv, play some games and get up around 9 for breakfast. I don't feel guilty about this. Most people I know are not miring people and sleep till 10am. I feel as long as I am getting up, sticking with the food tracker, getting some exercise and not Turing into complete sloth all day... Like I used to, I'm improving myself.

Snow, and cat naps on laps, are also part of my daily struggle! I have a workout facility in my complex and I have to walk to get to it, so sometimes when it snows or there is a lot of ice, I will give up on the idea. I figure I have a physically demanding job, and although I don't count those calories towards a workout, I really should. Also I have two boy cats and they are like yours by the sound of things, they view my lap as an 'opportunity' to pin me. I love them both though, so I will rarely move them off right away, they enjoy the company. However if you had a morning of chores planned.....forget about it when they are in a snugly mood! So I do get where you are coming from. At least you get to go out bowling with you son, so all is not lost.

Snow day!
Went outside and played with my 5 year old for a bit. Poor guy got cold fast.
Weekends get lazy and chores. I'm trying to find ways not to be lazy but I have a black cat that claims my lap once I sit down. Every time I sit for a bit to rest he is there.
His purring contentment is so sweet.
Sigh

At least there is plans for later. Shopping and taking the little one bowling

I feel so tired today. I'm half tempted to get a cup of coffee, which I have not had in over 3 weeks.
Probably too much bowling yesterday. I was at the alley for 2 hours and by the end of the night I was sore and exhausted.
Lunch really sounds unappatizing. I'm probably going to change it up a bit to make is something I want without going over any limits.
I signed up yesterday for the exercise change on this site. 10 minutes everyday to keep myself accountable. As long as the weather stays this nice I can get a walk in during lunch time today.
Frankly all I'm thinking of is going back to sleep. emoticon

I more then understand constantly being on the go with family. Once I get home it is utter chaos. I do my best to plan dinner ahead of time, then getting homework out of the way for the little one. After 8pm I drill in a little me time for some exercise and update the tracking.
I suggest turning off the phone and putting a time just for you. It doesn't have to be much more then 30 minutes and just explain to your family you are doing things to better yourself, but you are always there for them too.
Hopefully they will understand.

Good Luck Frogger

Tipically, this is a good thing when loose weight 1-2lbs per week because you keep it off longer. If you loose too quickly you can gain it all back quickly, and often you end up with more weight than when you started....yuck!!

So great job on another couple pounds lost!! I am running into the issue of constantly being on the go! I only have to worry about myself for right now, but I am in close proximity with family members that are demanding. They figure because I'm single I have all the time in the world....as if. Oh well it is just another distraction for investing the time needed into ourselves, to live a happy active life.

Keep up the great work! I will let you know whenever I have some success stories.

2 more pounds gone.
After Thanksgiving and all those pies I avoided (except a slice on Thanksgiving) I am proud of those 2 pounds. I am deffinately learning more about moderation of eating without giving up all the stuff I love. Granted i will stay away from potato chips (my evil love), but I traded it for some low calorie popcorn and snacks I found that fit my snack moods without going overboard.
I'm not sure if this is the slow weight loss I hear people talk about, but everything I read said 1 to 2 pounds a week was normal. I'll stick with normal.

Yesterday I was just very busy. I decided to take a walk during my lunch break, just 10 minutes, but I'm glad I did that as I had no time the rest of the day to get in any exercise.
Today I put on some jeans I had not put on in a month. They fit beautifully, the last time I tried them on it was tight. This really is a good sign in my eyes that this is not just weight loss but fitting into clothes again it's all over.
Today I'm going to do another walk during my lunch break in case things get crazy at home again. Tomorrow is weighing day and I'm actually excited no matter the results.

I don't have wine or beer issues. Never been much of a drinker. My problem is candy, chip and dip. That party at you're complex would have been very difficult for me.
I got more fruit and veggies to have as snacks this week. I have almost phased out ketchup and replaced it with low calorie items. Example is I had a hot dog and had only spicy brown mustard and relish. I just need to get turkey dogs next time and it would be a more healthy version.
I'm getting pretty sick of turkey right now. Tomorrow will be a turkey sandwich and that will be my last day of turkey. emoticon
I got in more walking today and took care of a project at home I have been promising to get done since May. I call this a good day overall

Well, it's never easy!!! I had to go to a 10th anniversary party today, with almost nothing I could in good conscience eat... The party was a community centre rental in the complex where I live, so I was obligated to attend. Anyway I managed to get away without even taking a peek at the desserts, even though I knew that the sister of the guest of honour is the owner of one of the top bakeries in Toronto. She specializes in wedding cakes! She also provided a variety of desserts for my mom's second marriage.

So that was a small victory! The epic fail though was the wine consumption, it was rather boring for me, considering I didn't know many people. So I took advantage of the wine on the tables. I guess tomorrow is a new day.

Hang in there mizzfit2 each day is a new challenge and adventure! emoticon

Brutal shift. I have had one of those once, it was horrible. I guess I'm too set in my ways of morning get up get dressed and go.
I enjoy the back and forth Frogger. It's nice to have someone going through this experience to share all the good, bad and ugly.
Christmas is no where as bad in my house. Surviving Thanksgiving well still have left overs so I'll see by the end of the week how well I really "survive." emoticon
Weekends have been my hard time. I am more at home, we currently have a few inches of snow, but my couch (my 5 year old who works me out in his own way) will still find exercise for me. Water and food is more easier to come at home and we didn't do a "clean out" because I'm the only one in the house doing this program/change.
So I see candy, cookies and chips all day long and have to just pretend it is not there. So far I have succeeded, even during the worst days. I just remind myself what I'm doing and look for things that are good for me to fill my stomach.

Yes!! I just discovered that little grouping button early on this week, it is very handy! Initial time to set up a bit discouraging, but all worth it in the end!

Great news that you made it through the fateful turkey day!! One of the worst next to Xmas, well for calories I mean! I love my family but it always means gourmet meals and a billion calories, that are too difficult to track. My family also likes to make and offer all sorts of alcoholic beverages, like those are totally wasted calories in my books! Unless it's beer, and I've learned to drink lite, but I really don't enjoy it so much that I hardly ever drink. I guess it's a good thing.

Still struggling a bit, really trying to clear out all the bad stuff from my cupboards. The other night I got home (I am a shift worker, and can't really eat at work) and it was around 10:30pm and I really couldn't be bothered to throw anything together, so I nuked a burrito. I still fell ok in the tracker for calories, but the proportions were all off (fat, proteins, and carbs). I guess I can't expect to do it all in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for listening! emoticon

I know what you mean about creating things for dinner. We made a chili at home that I had to add up. It took a bit of time, but I saved it as a group because I was going to have it for lunch tomorrow. I didn't have to retype all of those ingrediates again. That was useful.

Turkey day was good. Lots of food. I didn't eat very much. I put turkey, half a baked sweet potato, a small helping of stuffing and mashed potatoes and some broccolli. I could not even finish what I put on my plate. I caluculated everything I had and still stuck within in range (i was very carful during breakfast and lunch was a snack. I still felt exhausted this morning, probably too much food in one sitting and getting used to small meals through out the day, but now that I have had a few glasses of water and some veggies I'm feeling better and less weighed down.

Good luck with calculating your tracking sheet. I do think if you plan on remaking meals to add them as a group so you don't have to retype of of the ingrediates again.

I will try this, I am a mood eater, it really depends on how I am feeling as to what I will be eating that day. I know it sounds a bit strange, but I get board of foods fast! Unless it is pizza, I can eat that all day every day!!!! I found a coup,e of recipes on this site to make healthy pizza, and so that is what I have been doing when I crave pizza.

Well enough about pizza, it is about tracking what we eat. I make so many combinations of foods that it takes 15 to 20 mins to track lunch or dinner alone. I am a creative chef, it runs in my family, so unfortunately I am not satisfied with the ordinary foods that many people are. I also use many spices together in a combination for my meals. It is really hard to cut the salt out of my diet (as I eat way over the recommended doses) but again I get creative. I bought dry roasted almonds and often I will add them chopped up to my dinner as it adds the illusion of salt. Then I don't have to use table salt, and it gives me an added crunch to my meals. So I do what I can, with what I am allowed to eat.

Well it's off to work for me, so take care!

I have planned some thing in advance to put on my tracker. For example I put my lunch and snack and breakfast that I will have for the day. I wake up 10 minutes wary to get want I am taking to work and put them on the tracker. That just leaves dinner which some days I now a head of time. The times I don't know I put in the tracker before going to bed
Knowing what I have had most of my day lets me know how much I can eat at night.

Have a happy turkey day.

Any weight loss is a victory! Way to go! I have deviated from my calorie tracker somewhat this past week, so although I have not gained anything, I don't think there will be a loss either. I am back on track now though, it is difficult to find the time to track the food. I also have refined some of our goals, so I am feeling optimistic going forward.

As for the turkey, that's no problem......it's the gravy....yikes! Try to limit that. The pumpkin pie, think thin slices and you will be ok. Remember we can't all be perfect all the time, it comes back to portion control.

I used to love to drink beer, now I can still have some, but I buy the lower calorie ones. So if you are aware of what you eat then you are already half way there, because you can always make adjustments (portions, ingredients, food combinations, etcetera).

Think happy thoughts! emoticon

2 more pounds gone! I will gladly take it with the week I had. Made some smart choices when I went out to eat and only did a small goody here and there without going over board.
Tomorrow is turkey day. I don't know what to expect with my mom doing the cooking but I can skip the stuffing and not miss it.
I will not be missing that one slice of pumpkin pie. emoticon

I will keep that in mind Frogger.
Right now it is count down to next weigh in. Tonight I'm going to try one of the video's I found here for a bit of exercise and focas on today which is going well so far.
5 glass of water down, 3 to go and calorie, fat, protein and carb on in a healthy shape. :)

emoticon Hey don't worry about it, it's not like you ate the whole cake, or a bowl of frosting! The thing that I am starting to learn is that it is ok to have some "bad" foods occasionally as long as you use portion control. So you had a taste, no big deal, remember this is not just a diet, it is a lifestyle change. So your lifestyle will include treats every now and again, not a problem. Just remember if you have any setbacks (and everyone will have them) just don't give up!

Another day into the program. I can't say my day yesterday was bad but it wasn't all good.
I drank 6 glasses of water. I was content with that. I know, I know you need 8 and I figure if I try I'm doing good.
I had a prefectly good day until I get home, which is chaos. Hubby is sick and just wants soup and the little one wanted chinese food (we stopped over for hot and sour soup and noddles and rice for the little one) I decided to cook at home instead of eatting from there since we were taking it home.
I had Kielbasa, with a little ketchup and spicy mustard. It wasn't a lot of food because we had a project to do and the 5 year old was getting ansty. After eating, I put together home-made frosting for the dessert I had to bring to school. Long story short, OMG frosting evil and had a few licks and felt like crap.
I worked out for a good 10 minutes and threw in some cardio last night. I felt better but still have that lingering guilty for the frosting.

I agree with you Frogger, will power, desire to be a better person, I think of those things when we go out to dinner instead of eating at home. I think about how good I felt that first week sticking with the progam and that if I go back I will just gain back the weight I lost.
All those things combine kept me from being sad about those things I will never have again and kept me from thinking about them.

IGNITEME101 - I forgot to mention that I have a friend that uses Cucumber and Lime when she drinks water. I'm not a cucumber fan, but it really smells good. That is another combo to think about when drinking water.

That is an excellent idea, we did just that. All the desserts were given away so I don't have to look at them, or eat them. Turkey and stuffing though.......portion control. I can't wait until I get to the point that I no longer want bad food. I used to hate chocolate before, then I gradually introduced it into my diet, now look at me! I know it can be done, I think we should all pray for patience and willpower!

Hang in there GRAPHICS2. Don't let one bad day push you back down.

Good luck to you Frogger. I know the holidays are tough, all the desserts staring you in the face. It's tempting. I told myself just one small slice this year and not the 2 slices I would normally get. Plus with everyone that is coming over I will be sending left overs, especially any desserts with the guest this year. emoticon

I blew it today with an overdose of homemade ice cream. I will move on, and star afresh tomorrow.

I'm going to try lemon and an apple slice in my water this week It is so important to drink plenty of water! I try to drink mine early in the day, but then it helps digest food if your drink water with your meal. Also I drink more water every time z drink coffee or tea because they are stimulants/caffeine.

Find what works for you and work it!

That is really amazing that you were able to make your water goal! I know it isn't easy but it really makes a difference in how hungry you are. I lost another pound, but haven't recorded it yet, so I wanted to let you know. My mom has been hosting a ton of parties as we are close to the holiday season, and it gets to becoming difficult when I am invited over..... So much German food! Terrible for you, but tasty!

So I am hanging in there, and trying to drink a ton of water instead of alcohol. Wish me good luck, and I hope I can withstand the peer pressure! emoticon

Today I had the most wonderful homemade smoothie with strawberries, blackberries, banana and plain Greek yogurt. T I had a small glass and I am not hungry at all.
Today will be tough, I'm making some muffins for my sons school. These muffins are not healthily at all. Self control has been really tested these past few days. I just dig in and keep away from anything fried or candy/cake related. emoticon

It's really hard to drink 8 glasses of water a day. It causes me to go to the bathroom like every hour, cutting into my sleep time so I had to cut back. It is difficult also for me, like most other sparkers here, but I will keep trying. ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Thank frogger! I know first week in about water weight, but I happy to loss the weight.
I finally got 8 glasses of water down yesterday. I put lemon in my water, which helped a lot.
Today I feel a bit tired. I don't know if it is because I got 6 hours of sleep last night or because all I do at my job is sit behind a computer for 8 hours.
I'm pretty certain it is both effecting me today

Awesome weight loss!!! emoticon giving you a high five! I also have to work on my mental roadblock of exercising, I'm working up to it...

On another topic, the one of water, my friend told me that coffee and tea count to your overall water totals, since they are essentially mainly water. This may help you along your way to achieving your water goals. I will be checking my weight tomorrow, and I will keep you posted on the progress.

The little one took about half by home-made smoothie this morning. My goal this week is to put in more time for exercise. I know eating well alone will not be enough. I tried doing a few things last night. Push ups, what a laugh my legs trembled try to lift up. Sit ups, at least I could do this, but after 20 I was hurting. I did some stretches and tonight is bowling. I definitely need to woot on my legs more then upper body.

Well I lost 7lbs this week. Hubby had to say it was water weight. Yeah and???
Kept on track today and I am going to do the test to see how many push ups and sit-ups I can do in a minute. Pretty sure it won't be high but it will help motivate me.

Frogged I have tried putting the water in front on me, but I feel so sick drinking so much.
On a side note I am weighing myself tomorrow. It has been a week since my initial weigh in . I'm excited and scared at the same time

I have been joined with spark people only about a week, and I'm still learning the ropes. The one thing I can tell you to drink 8 glasses of water a day can be challenging, however I find it a bit easier if I use bottled water because 4 bottles a day is all you need to drink. Also if you set out the bottles at the beginning of the day it makes tracking water easier.

Good luck on your journey emoticon

Yesterday was a really good day for nutrition I stayed right on target for the day.
I realized looking at the calories and everything it really is about quantity you eat. I know they tell you that, but I never really listened until I pAid attention.
Didn't get much exercise yesterday. With the high winds outside and very little time for myself I have not figured how I will fit something into my schedule.

Found out playing with children on the exercise list. Today we took it easy, mostly up and down stairs doing chores. 8 glasses of water is difficult. I don't drink that much, ever. Most I could do was 5 glasses.
Doing one of the recipes I found here for dinner. If smells soooooo good. I made a strawberry smoothie using some ingredients that are good for me. My son really loved the drink.
I really want to see if I lost any weight , I have to remind myself more about how good I feel right now and not worry if I have lost weight or not.

How can you track food intake when someone eats almost half your food?
Is playing outside with your child on the exercise track? I haven't looked but it should be.
My child had track ideas that was exhausting. For runny, using a stick to hit the ball from one place to another, to throwing the ball from tree to tree. After 30 minutes I'm beat.

Today was okay I felt good most of the day and got some really healthy and good things from the store. I have had 3, 12 oz cups water and did some walking. Dinner on the other hand was grab and go. I did get chicken and took off some skin. My fats today is over, but everything else stayed within the recommendation.
Weekend has me nervous. Usually at home most of the time with others around me snacking.

Day 2 is coming to an end. Still have bowling tonight, who knew bowling was exercise. emoticon
Counting calories and watching my intake for food seems to be helping.
I am think a schedule to add walking during lunch would be a good idea. Walking helped a lot the last time I lost weight. I cut coffee out today. It felt really good and I had 3, 12oz water, which is more than I had yesterday.
I decided adding steps each day would help not make me hate the change. As for caffeine taking it out has been pretty easy so far.
I'm not sure when I should weigh myself again. I used to do once a week, but if you lose nothing I know it can be frustrating.
