I think technology pushes people further apart. Humans are meant to connect, face to face. While I agree there is a definite place, purpose and need for technology I also feel that as it relates to human connection it is a hinder not a help. Look at the rise of texting over actual telephone calls.

I respect technology and all the knowledge you can gain now that was much more difficult to get before but I truly believe that it will be the downfall of humanity. Not just like The Terminator movies but because people have lost the ability to truly communicate with one another - texting has led to a loss of proper grammar, video games have caused that generation to have NO ability to concentrate for more than 2 minutes and to get fat because they sit and play games instead of getting outside with others and running around, porn has broken up families, people don't write letters anymore or read real books, and because of the gadgets, they can't carry on conversations with one another without being distracted by a phone or IPad. I see it every single day at the college where I teach and it's very sad.

For me, together as I live alone so it keeps me connected. But I can see that if you live with someone and are constantly gaming, on your tablet, etc. that it would be a social barrier.

my Daughter lives on the other side of the country, she sends me lots of emails and photos of the Grandkids on my computer. I turn my computer off and on like the TV and don't wait for it to ring, buzz or vibrate. I don't have a smart phone and I can't stand to see people constantly glued to them. So I wouldn't go without my computer but have lived happily without other devices.

I think technology brings people together for the most part. But sometimes it also keeps them apart.

With so many different gadgets, people now get distracted every few minutes. Trying to have a meaningful conversation with someone becomes harder and harder.

I have often wondered ... with those who are constantly on the phone or texting,..
or watching or playing or using their apps
What do they have to say to each other when they are face to face
or do they pay more attention to their devices instead ?

WHAT DO YOU THINK emoticon

I remember when the only thing you had to compete against was the TV
{...especially if there was a game on ...}
