I signed up to walk in a 5k, and started walking regularly again to prepare after mostly getting my cardio from an elliptical for over a year. Some of the acclimation I've had to make is in controlling my foot fall and strengthening my ankles again, but the worst problem I've encountered is that my hands swell like crazy when I walk! I've tried keeping my hands at waist-level and pumping my arms rather than swinging them, but even so, all the blood rushes to my hands and they get so swollen I can hardly bend my fingers. Obviously, this is a problem - has this happened to anyone? Any advice?
PS - I walked the 5k this past weekend, and it went well, other than the hands swelling.
