Make it plain, and add sugar only when it's done. In fact, it would probably be even better to just add sugar to individual servings! Just add to taste, maybe with a drop of vanilla extract.

I went through a phase where I was making my own yogurt, but couldn't eat it fast enough to justify it... it's a bit of a project to make more every week before your starter dies.

My 17-yr old son is interested in learning to make yogurt. We are going to experiment tomorrow with making it in the crockpot. Has anyone made sweetened yogurt at home? We are in love with deli-style yogurt here in AU, which is a lightly sweetened thick vanilla with fresh fruit like mixed berries or mango and passionfruit. I'd love to find a way to make it at home. I found one recipe that recommended sweetening with honey.
