the info from my local grocery store says that the 130 cal avocado salad roll is a wrap. which means it's the rice paper with lettuce and two thin slices of avocado sushi, not the rice wrapping seaweed wrapping avocado sushi. that kind of sushi would fall under the category of vegetable combo at 360 cals a box. but that veg combo number includes carrots and cucumber as well. straight avocado would be a little higher for the same volume. i know my local sushi place makes the veg rolls smaller than the other kinds of rolls, so based on size difference and the avocado being one of the higher cal items i would enter .75 of that as my avocado roll. www.afcsushi.com/includes/templates/theme4 57/images/nutrition_info_fresh.jpg this is the sushi from the grocery store info i am using.

I usually track sushi or sashimi at 350-400 per serving because I dip them in wasabi and soy sauce. I prefer to track higher when I eat out because there are too many variables that are out of my control. I always order miso soup and a sushi roll when I eat at a Japanese restaurant which is hard because there are too many things I love to eat. I am often hungry not long after eating sushi so for now it is a rare treat.

The sushi rolls I make with avocado, cucumber and crab come out to 275 calories for 8 rolls. I don't use a lot of avocado though.

To answer your question about what types are 'better,' Here's some tips: - Have soup or salad first so you're not starving -Have handrolls for less rice if you want -Avoid tempura/fried rolls when possible -Try to avoid mayo in the roll -If you want a higher fat roll, then pair it with a simple, lower fat roll

As a PP said, I would log it as something similar. And as far as "best" goes, look for ones that don't have mayo or cream cheese in them either. The more veggies the better :)

Sushi rolls are super hard to calculate sometimes because each place has their own recipe or their portion sizes are different. I think your best option is to either go with what the different sites suggest but also keeping in mind that it may be +/- a few calories or use a recipe builder calculator to get an approximation.

I have a hard time with this as well. If you want, you can always log the different components of the roll... such as... 1/2 cup rice, 1/3 cup avocado. That combo comes out a bit over 200 calories. Usually I just say ... whatever, I don't eat sushi out except as a treat once a month or so, so I will enter a couple rolls that look like they had about the same ingredients and call it good.

I am wondering about logging sushi calories. I absolutely love Avocado rolls but I know they have more than 140 calories in there but that is consistently what i have found the same number on many websites. Does anyone have insight into this? I think it is probably more like 250 but any help would be appreciated.
