I always try to focus on smaller portions of the stuff I love (I'm a mac and cheese person as well!) and then load up a plate with a salad or make good decisions like a veggie burger with no bun if there are lots of other carbs and high fat foods.
I've even had instances where I go to our team building lunches but pack my own lunch. I don't want to miss out on the lunch but can stay healthy at the same time. If people ask why - I explain. Just another way to spread the spark!
Yay for you is right! Good work. I hate potluck s. I try to always bring something healthy so that I know I will have at least one good choice. Then I usually arrive a little late ....eat as heathy as I can....walk around and talk to people for a bit....and then quietly ""escape." I am excited for you that you handled it so well. yay!
I work in a place where all of our food is provided to us daily, and most of it is not very good for you! Luckily they have a fridge just dedicated to salads and vegetables, so you can load up on that if the main meal selection isn't very healthy. Today we had a pot luck, and boy it was hard to say no to all the delicious home made goodies! There wasn't much left by the time I got to it, so I had 1/4-1/2 cup servings of some pasta salad, some home made mac and cheese (couldnt pass that one up) and some cole slaw. Then I made a seperate plate and loaded it with salad and veggies and some grilled chicken. I was so proud of myself for passing up the entire table loaded with desserts, and marched straight upstairs and grabbed 2 Russell Stover sugar free chocolate pecan bites to settle me. Yay for overcoming the pot luck!!!
