They use to say you couldn't count anything but water as your water. Now experts are changing that.

VERY dehydrated? What size are those glasses, and what kind of tea???
I drink about 1/2 gallon of black tea a day, and I am not dehydrated at all.

Tea is a mild diuretic- so you don't get the effects of water. I love tea also, but I limit my intake to 1-2 glasses a day- If you drink 8 glasses of tea you will be very dehydrated. Water fills you up, but it also hydrates you tissue. Your body works better when hydrated. The way I started to drink water is I used mostly water and put in some flavorings- like lemon or lime- or herbs- mint, etc to give it a flavor kick.

Tea counts... as long as you don't add calories... no matter HOW you make it.
