I love smoothies too and I always put protein powder in them. Otherwise it is just sugar. My favorite is 1 cup milk, 1/2 blueberries, 1/2 strawberries, 2 ice cubes of greens I made in the juicer, scoop or 2 of protein powder, 1 tsp cinammon, 1 tsp honey. When I have coconut oil I put in a tsp or 2 of that too. I'm not concerned about the calories so much - I am very active. I also don't eat processed carbs so the carbs in this aren't too bad.
love smoothies, never tried it with the protein powder

That sounds really yummy! I wonder if I could use almond milk in place of skim milk. I rarely use milk. Maybe soy would be better.
I make a green smoothie with 3 leaves of Kale, 2 bananas, an apple peeled, a pear peeled and a handful of dates, plus, 2 cups of water. I am not sure about the calorie content, but it is packed full of nutrition. I use a high powered blender and don't do much in the way of cutting the fruit up.
I am getting hooked on smoothies! I realize you have to be careful when making smoothies b/c calories can add up quickly. However, I try to keep mine light and delicious and considering they take less than 2 minutes to make they are right up my alley lol! The Wal-mart in my area had containers of strawberries for .99 so I really stocked up! My quick and easy recipe is as follows: 5-6 sliced strawberries 1/2 c. skim milk 3 T. low fat vanilla yogurt 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein crushed ice.... just mix and the blender and voila! I also have frozen raspberries and blackberries which are equally delish!
