I get pretty good results using a 50/50 blend of light butter and fat free cream cheese instead of the butter called for in cookie recipes. This also works for frosting too. This results in a 75% reduction in fat.
When I used applesauce the cookies weren't eating, however I think the receipe was with alot of whole oats. Therefore I kinda blame the recipe.another might make a big difference

Yes, I tried applesauce. I don't mind but my family can taste the differance so I stay with my regular reciepe and simply make the cookies smaller, so smaller portions=less calories.

You can do it but your cookies won't spread at all and they will be tougher and chewier, maybe even feel a little rubbery. I find that subbing applesauce or other fruit purees for half the oil works better than trying to take it all out. The cookies also won't brown as quickly on the top so they won't look done -- check the bottoms of the cookies instead. I learned that one the hard way :)
