Every time a food commercial comes on do some jumping jacks, or crunches, or situp, etc. You would be surprised at how many food commercials come up in a two minute period lol
Perhaps when you find yourself in a situation like you are at the moment, then utilize that time by reading the various articles on Fitness, Nutrition and Motivation on SP. There are many the actually deal with your situation!

I am a big believer that stress is a neglected aspect of weight gain. If a person could reduce their stress, they'd automatically reduce their waistline.
You need to find ways to vent your stress that don't involve food. Whenever I'm feeling out of sorts, I hit the gym for a good workout. Have you ever tried kick boxing ? I find hitting a heavy bag helps me decrease and vent my day's frustrations. What about yoga ? Yoga isn't just about being more flexible. There are yoga classes that will teach you breathing techniques as well as how to meditate. Studies have shown that meditating can help lower a person's blood pressure as well as their stress.
So, if you've never done yoga, you might consider taking a class. And you should take a class over a DVD. a DVD isn't the same as a class. An instructor can teach you many different techniques to help you (as my teacher says) calm your nervous system.
Do you drink tea ? I find tea very soothing as well as relaxing. the next time you feel like you want to run to the frig, try having a cup of tea, listen to your favorite music, take a walk. If you haven't read any of the great Spark articles on emotional eating, you might want to start reading them. they'll help.
Would it be possible to get in the car and drive somewhere? Do you have a gym membership, or community-centre where you could go do a drop-in? Would it be relaxing to spend some time poking through the library or a book store? Maybe just cruising through the mall (avoiding food court areas of course!). Maybe there's a friend you could meet for coffee (just coffee!)
Sometimes a simple change of scenery can help.... gets you out of close proximity to the kitchen cupboards and fridge, gets your mind on other things.

March vigorously in place in front of a good tv show. Jog in place through the commercials. This will give you a good interval workout, as if you'd gone out to walk.

I admit, I am a stress eater. I have been working on it but today I just want to eat everything in the house. I have meditated twice, tried reading a book, even watched part of a Disney movie. It is storming out so I can not get out and walk (which normally helps)... any ideas, I am willing to try just about anything.
