I do not use frozen dinners simply because I do not think they are worth the calorie content.

Never, it is loaded with fat, sodium and preservatives. I do all my cooking on Sundays except for the veggies. It's great as I just pull it out of the fridge and geat up the chicken, salmon or whatever else I make for the week.

I prefer batch cooking/freezing as well. Also, throwing some fish fillets and veggies in the oven is just as easy as heating up a stouffer's meal, without the added sugar and salt.

I gave up Stouffers because of the high salt content, but I find that is the case with most frozen entrees. Too bad, maybe they would sell more if they woke up ! I cook for one and when I make a big batch, I freeze it in portions I can add to a meal over several weeks.
Miss Ruth is right about making your own meals and freezing them. I once did that and it was so helpful working a full time job. I took a Sunday and portioned everything out into ziploc bags and then just emptied the contents into the crockpot in the morning. When I came home dinner was done.
Some things that I did was: Chicken, carrots, potatoes, celery mixed with some chicken broth and seasoning that all was low in sodium. Its easier to mark them with the amount of calories and other info when you are putting it together your self too.
Or one of the ones I really enjoyed was I frozed chicken, salsa, onions, and green peppers crockpot cooked all day and then throw in a pan and sear off for fajita :)
Hope this helps, but I would stay away from the frozen meals.

Thank you, this is a great article. I rarely eat frozen meals but when in a pinch is better than the fast food choice. By adding a salad, fruit or even the low fat/skim milk, you have a satisfying meal in minutes.

jmo... I don't see anything wrong with occasionally including frozen meals. The advantage of choosing a frozen meal (for the convenience, ease of prep etc) over, say, fast food -- is that you can see the ingredients list, and easily add some extra vegetables or salad on the side. And I daresay it would cost less than a trip through the drive thru.
You can also create your own frozen meals and stash a few of those, for times when you're pressed for time.
I don't know about the regular products, but doesn't Stouffers Lean Cuisine have a lot of sodium? I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of frozen, pre-made foods contained a high level of sodium.

So, we like Stouffers brand occasionally because it is ready made and big enough to feed the whole family. The pros seem to be that it is preservative free (my girls are allergic to preservatives) and I recognize the ingredients. BUT! It seem disproportionately high on calories for what it is. Any thoughts? Do you use this brand never, some, a lot?
