We are our own worst critics. Flaws we see in ourselves, no one else sees. You really can't dwell on the past. that's past is past. BUT, you can influence the future. You can improve your health by living that healthy lifestyle that you started a year ago. Don't beat on yourself because you aren't perfect. NO ONE is perfect. We all have flaws and you know what ? That's okay.
All those negative things you say to yourself. Take a moment and say them out loud. Look in the mirror and say them. write them down too. Now, let me ask you this, all those negative things that you said or wrote to yourself,"would you say those things to your best friend ? would you tell your mom or sister those things ? " Well, if you wouldn't say those negative things to your best friend or mom, then why do you say them to yourself ? Don't you deserve love, kindness and compassion every bit as much as they do ?
If you want the negative thoughts to stop, then you've got to start playing up your positives. I know you think you don't have any. But, I can assure you that you have many many positives. Once you've decided what those positives are, I want you to go back to that mirror and say every one of those positives to the mirror.
As the old song goes,"accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative".
One quote I heard (that is similar to Coach Nancy's) on Spark helps me a lot.
"Have a Short Memory (forget the past) and be able to see into the Future (plan for tomorrow)".
It happened, and now is the time to take control. Remember, small steps and one day at a time. Also, one thing I started doing back in January is every morning I would wake up and look in the mirror and say One Positive thing about me. It didn't even have to be about my looks. It could be "you have a great smile", "you're having a good hair day", or "you are going to do great in that meeting today". But it always helped put a positive spin on my thought process of myself for the day.

You can't change the past, but you are in control of today and all the tomorrows yet to come. The only thing looking back is good for is to help you change your behavior for today and your future.

I joined SP about a year ago and lost 18 lbs, then went back up about 5-8 lbs. Now all I can do when I look at my body in the mirror is think negative thoughts. I hate doing this to myself! Help!
