LadyStarWind, my advise for you is to take it one day at a time. try not to do anything after your surgery because it wont help at all. Listen to your doctor and stay off your feet for the first 6 weeks and then try and do a little bit after that for the 6 months because if you start to do things right away it will not help your foot.

And Hi LBRAUNS5

Don't wait for anyone to recommend the 17 day diet book to you. just go out and get it and try it because it will be well worth it if you do. I weigh in at 221.5 lbs and I have to lose atleast 75 lbs so I am doing it for my health as well as my knees. The book was written by a Doctor and he gets right to the point in the book so just try it. what do you have to lose hun. add me as a friend and we can email each other okay

Good luck to both of you with your upcoming surgeries! I'm curious to know how the 17 day diet goes for you. I have heard of it before, but haven't read the book, although I am curious about it. My husband is a Marine, and the Commandant's Wife's Reading List came out a month or two ago and this book is on the list. Makes me think the 17 day diet must be a healthy, attainable "diet" for it to be recommended by her.

Oh wow--I TOTALLY understand your waiting--in fact May might seem a bit too soon if you are still healing from PT on one knee and surgery on the second knee! emoticon

I have my first foot surgery in 3 days!! For me it will be six weeks with pins & screws in my bones... then I get to start walking again. Sounds like I can learn a lot from you, since what you've been through is much more invasive and intense than I will be handling! Do you have any "best advice" for me?? emoticon

I certainly wish you the very best on your coming surgery and recovery for both knees (and then later on with your diet goals...!)

Hello LadyStarWind welcome to SparkPeople.

I am starting in May because I have surgery coming up soon myself and my friends also are waiting until then. One of my friends is a member of SparkPeople as well. I have to wit because I also have a lot of things going on this month.

One of the things is trying to walk normal after having a total knee replacement done last Sept. and then having it manipulated in December so now I walk with a limp. I have to try and get back to where I was before the surgery, I am having my other leg done as well but just with a scope this time.
So you see that is why I am waiting until May.

The 17 day diet is a book that I bought last week and when you do it you can loss 10to 17 lbs in those 17 days then you move on to cycle 2 and try and lose another 10 to 15 lbs

there is 3 cycles of the 17 day diet and right now I have to read the book first

I am curious...what is "the 17 day diet" you are referring to?? I've not heard that terminology before, but then I'm fairly new in educating myself.

from your note it seems you have some good solid reasons for your goal, so I would bet you Will Succeed!! Best wishes on it...!

PS..are you going to "get a head start" on your friends by Starting Now instead of waiting until May??!! emoticon

I along with a few of my friends are going to have some fun by starting the 17 day diet in may and I know that we will succeed in it because we have the will power and the determination to succeed. I have been wanting this for a long time because I have gained 11 lbs back and I know that I should start thinking about my weight as a goal that I can succeed at. I plan to do it and I know that I have the motivation and support from all of you.

I need to lose this weight because I am finding it hard to sleep at night because I cant sleep on my back anymore because of it. I have a hard time breathing and my asthma is always acting up when I walk. It will help my legs if I lose this weight as well because my legs is supporting 221 lbs and it bothers them. My doctor has even told me if i lose the weight that my legs wont hurt as much as well.

I WANT TO LOSE ATLEAST 70 LBS and I know I can do it.
