I can attest to Dietitian Becky's statement - I am one of the many millions :-)

One thought that crossed my mind - is your Thyroid diagnosis a fairly recent one? If so, that could explain you difficulty in trying to lose the weight. I would imagine you are now on meds for it, so that would help considerably - AS WELL AS keeping a close eye on your nutrition. By that I also strongly advocate weighing your food for increased accuracy. It is one thing to eye-ball a food and guess it's weight/size, but another to be accurate with it. This is where a lot of people eat a lot more calories than they realize!

Good luck with your journey :-)

You have stumbled onto Sparkpeople...we have over 14 million members and we are the #1 weight loss web site in America. We have nothing to do with the book you mentioned by Lyn Genet...but I encourage you to give "our" program a try...we have helped millions!!

It's a great program. I'm 69, have belonged for 2 years, and lost 24 lbs., only to regain 14 when I stopped tracking carefully and mostly stopped exercising. I've been back at it for 2 months now and am down 8 lbs. Use the week-end to shop for some of the healthy foods you may not have on hand, read more of the articles and join some teams that interest you. Perhaps there is one for people with thyroid problems. I hope that you enjoy the program.

Yes I have entered my personal info and received the weight loss calorie range. I am counting calories but it hasn't been working. I thought this forum was for those doing The Plan created by Lyn Genet. That's what I meant when I said I am starting next week. Thank you for welcoming me.

I will be starting the plan next week. I am going through menopause and have a thyroid issue to deal with. I hope this works because the only way I have been able to lose a lot of weight in the past is working out excessively, like 2 hours a day and drinking protein shakes. I really want a better more balanced way of losing weight. I have gained 50 lbs in the last 4 years and I am very frustrated because nothing has worked in the last couple of years. I can't even lose one pound. I stumbled onto this book on Pinterest and am hoping it is an answer to my prayers. I just want to be healthy and be able to fit into my clothes!
