I'm running my 12th half tomorrow morning, and I'll be running 3 more in the next 8 weeks.

Hi everyone! I am not quite ready for a half marathon.... I am working on my third 5K, and will begin to train for a 10K in November. My goal is to run a 10K on or around my birthday. Since I live in Ohio, racing in February will be a snowy challenge. I am committed to working up to a half marathon by summer 2014. Make it a great day!!!!

I'm doing the training but I'm not going to actually do the race. The races I wanted to do earlier this year got sold out then I friend told me about another that was 4 hours away. I was going to do it with her but she had to cancel. I don't want to make that trip alone so I'm committed to at least doing the training this time. Maybe next year.

Thanks for the encouragement. I joined the NOTC and they are training my friend and I. My marathon is in Dec. so I am trying to walk everyday. We entered as race walkers. I am a little nervous but I am sure it will be ok. My goal is to just cross the finish line.
Thanks again.

Congrats and good luck! I'm also training for my first half--it's next month! It's been a lot of fun and super rewarding so far. I'm already planning my next one for next July. :)

I have started to train too. I was at the Ventura Marathon a couple weeks ago. I ran the 5k, but I really got the bug to run the half. I haven't picked one yet. I am planning a 10k before the end of the year.

Congratulation!!!! It is hard work, so train slowly. I have only done 1 1/2 Marathon a few years ago, but I am starting training all over again for another one in March. emoticon

Congrats on making the commitment to train for a long distance race!!

Although training for a half (or any distance) is challenging the key is to have fun and remember the goal. You will have bad runs and days you don't want to get out of bed to get your long run in. You just need to remember that the race is the celebration of all your hard work. Make sure you tell everyone you know so they can encourage and motivate you. Also, see if there is a group you can run with. Running with people is much more fun than running alone.

I am running my 10th marathon in about 3 weeks and this Saturday will be my longest run, 22 miles and then I start my 3 week taper. As with every marathon training cycle I've had good days and bad days. Without a group I would have never been able to get though my long runs (or any runs for that matter). The key is to forget the bad days and focus on the good days and remember why those were good days.

Good luck!! What half are you doing and when is it?

Good luck ! Take it slow and easy. listen to your body. I ran my first half on Sunday. great experience.

Oh and you might want to check out this great thread on other members who have either run a half or are training for a half. lots of advice.
