Hi! I'm new to SparkPeople, though I've been aware of the wonderful community for a few years now.
I've struggled with disordered eating patterns since immediately after I graduated from high school. I grew up a bit on the chubby side, very slightly overweight, and this was a slam to my confidence. After high school, I lost 50 lbs. in 6 months or so . . . the wrong way, through overexercising and restriction. I didn't realize exactly what I was doing. It was a way to cope with stress. I ended up underweight and starving. Now, 4 years later, I've gained back about 20 of those pounds, back to a healthy weight for my height (I'm tall). However, now, I struggle with compulsive overeating and couch potato syndrome. I haven't been happy, truly happy, for a long, long time, and after watching Danni Allen succeed on The Biggest Loser last week, I decided it was time to take back control and to achieve my goals!
I begin training tomorrow and will be tracking my calories to lose 5-10 pounds THE RIGHT WAY this time, while also focusing on gaining muscle and toning up to be strong and fit. I truly do love being active, I am a healthy eater overall, but I decided to still come use SparkPeople to help hold me accountable, to monitor my nutrition and be sure I'm eating enough, to help me work through and resolve the emotional triggers from my past, and to find support and make friends!
I am eager and excited to start this new lifestyle program to last the rest of my life! Any initial tips, tricks, or advice would be very much appreciated! Feel free to message me, too, and add me as a friend--I'm looking to grow my support circle and to offer support to anyone I can, too! :)
