When I force myself to actually slow down and *savor* something, I feel full quicker because my brain has had time to process the fact that I'm eating something and send the appropriate signals to my stomach to say that I am full. Its when I'm eating quickly that I risk binging because my brain hasn't caught up with my stomach.

My husband is the same way as your co-worker. He takes about an hour to eat one chocolate chip cookie... I actually watched him do it last night. With me, that cookie would be gone in 3 bites and under 10 seconds. Then of course, I'd barely taste it and want another.

I've been trying to mimic my husband's habits and it works really well. I got a chocolate orange (my fav. xmas chocolate) over the holidays and I'd take a serving (4 slices) and nibble on them, let them melt, slowly over the course of an hour and the amazing thing was... no cravings for a second serving or third for the matter.

A coworker of mine (that is a normal weight), has some unhealthy treat on her desk to eat almost every day. Cupcakes, raisinettes, cookies, you name it. Oh boy am I jealous! Then I noticed that she might take a bite here and there but it sits there for most of the work day, apparently not tempting her to scarf it down all at once. It made me think of my own eating habits: if there is a treat, I tend to eat it all until it's gone, fast!! I wonder if the speed of her eating helps her stay slim, even though she's eating unhealthy treats.
