I have a droid and I went ahead and paid $3.99 for the SP App. I like it in connection with the SP website. The App is definately lacking in the food database, but so is SP website. I come to SP because the website overall is the best out there....if it were strictly for the food database, I wouldn't be on SP. If you love SP and you are on the website, then go ahead and pay the $ and download the SP App...it will help keep you on track...especially when you see the App icon on your phone.
Scroll through the "Site and technical help" forum. There is a way to restore it if you had the free version, but I think it has to be on the same platform. (In other words, if you downloaded it free for Android, you can restore it to another Android phone, but not to an iPhone because it's actually a different product-- just like you have to buy Microsoft Office all over again if you had a Mac and switch to PC.) It's worth looking through the forum, though.
We made some changes and upgrades to our app recently, and there is now a $3.99 charge for it.

I have to pay to download the ap to my phone, I didn't have to when I downloaded it a few years ago. I'm guessing sparkpeople is charging me as I still have the same carrier. I did, however, change from a smart phone to an iPhone, maybe the ap is only free on smart phones?
