I've read recently that draining the liquid or rinsing the vegetables, loses a lot of the nutritional value of the product. Better to look for "no salt added" products. I've gotten used to them. I like spicy food so I use Trader Joes Chili Pepper Sauce to a lot things. 5 calories a tsp. No sodium.
Instead of canned vegetables, I use frozen. They have very little sodium.

I normally drain out cans as well to relieve some of the sodium. I don't know the exact percentage - Becky gave you a good answer - I've just always figured that it takes out at least half of the sodium. I also will sometimes rinse off lunch meat and hotdogs before cooking them, if that sounds weird. Only thing with a lot of sodium that I normally don't rinse off is cheese. Mmm...cheese...

How do you count the sodium when you have drained and rinsed the vegetables from a can? I don't see how to measure the sodium levels but I really do hate to see my levels so high when I actually took a bunch of the sodium away.
Also, why do the frozen vegetables have to be so high in sodium?! I am trying to eat healthy and LOVE the Green Giant Cauliflower & Cheese sauce... I have not yet found a low calorie cheese sauce... so if anybody could give me a recipe or a link for one I would love you for life!
