Yoga will enhance your flexibility, but it is not physically possible to elongate muscles. All muscles have fixed points of origin and insertion. Although you may get a bit of genetic variation in morphology, these points are fixed and do not change. Short of surgery, there is no way to elongate muscles. Losing body fat may give a person a leaner appearance, but muscles do not become longer.
The number of muscle fibers and fiber type also is genetically determined. Some people will not be able to enlarge muscle mass easily, while others will struggle to run long distances. I encourage clients to embrace their unique appearance and use fitness and nutrition as tools to make them the best they uniquely can be.

There is no exercise that will reduce the circumference of your calves. All you can do is lose fat, which as everyone else has mentioned, comes off your body where it wants to based on your genetics.

I hear ya. I did marching band for 5 years and by my senior year, my boots barely zipped around my calves as I was field conductor for 2 years.
I gained weight in college, then lost so I'm at a lower weight than I was when I graduated high school, but I feel like I still have "big" calves. Just keep doing what you're doing and they will slim down!

Same problem here - my only thought besides the good advice before me is that maybe yoga will help me stretch and elongate the muscles some.

Oh how I wish there was an easy way to do this (10 years of fencing = completely unable to buy calf-high boots) but as the previous posters have said, there isn't. Fat loss is an all-body project and you don't get to choose where the fat comes from. Eat right, strength train, and do cardio (ordered by priority) and the weight will come off.
Burning fat is an all-body process, and unfortunately you can't target where you lose weight from. Energy is delivered to the muscles via the bloodstream, NOT from being absorbed from surrounding fat stores. Calf-specific exercises (including running) may help develop the calf muscles, but will do absolutely nothing about the overlying layer of fat.
What you can do is to continue to reduce your overall body fat through a combination of cardio, all-body strength training and watching your intake, and some of it will naturally come off the calves. It sounds like you are making great progress already in losing weight - keep up the great work!

Hi everyone! I'm new here and stumbled upon this site while searching for a solution to my XXL calves. I'm 5'4", weigh 180 lbs, and am currently wearing a size 9/10. I could get into smaller clothing if my legs and arms weren't so large. I was close to 295 at my heaviest (at 18) and from that, has resulted HUGE legs and flabby, gross arms. I cannot find anything about slimming down calves. Every post I see is about someone wanting "big calves" but by that, they mean toned calves. I need to slim mine down before I try and concentrate on definition. They are 22 inches around! I do not want that to all be muscle! They look ridiculous. Please, someone has to know of an exercise besides running that will help with this issue. =(
