WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Good job on your walking! There are so many great resources here! I recommend starting with the nutrition/food tracker because that is the key element in weight loss for most people. Then, once you're comfortable with tracking your food on a daily basis, start exploring more areas of this site. I still find something new here almost every day. By tracking everything since May 2011 and using the other features here to keep myself focused, I lost 90 pounds and have maintained that loss for over a year now. It takes a little bit of time, but it is sooooo worth it!

Hi, I am Sara, and I always thought of myself as young and healthy, all of a sudden I found that I turned 33 and I realized, I feel old, I am 4-5 different prescription medications for heart and cholesterol and I am overweight. I have maintained this weight for quite some time, but that isn't helping the situation. On Feb. 28th one of my co-workers thought he was having a stroke. Long story short, it scared me VERY badly. I have high blood pressure, high heart rate, high cholesterol and am fat. Yes, I am not going to sugar coat it and say overweight or obese, but fat. I have a beautiful tube around my tummy and though, I haven't noticed it before, I notice it now. I don't want to live like this, it's not good for my joints, it's not good for my emotions, it's not good for my babies that I want to be healthy for (dogs... don't judge) and it think in a way it IS trying on my relationship with my husband. I sure don't want to look at this! And MOST of all, it isn't good for my health. I want to be healthy. I want this and it is time for change. I have been walking 15-30 minutes 5 days a week at work and trying to do cardio at least 30 minutes 3 times a week. So far success I started on March 3 and I found SparkPeople just last week. There is a lot going on around this site. I hope it will help me. Thanks for listening. ~sara
