I was lifting my dumbells, they are 5lbs. I did'nt think they were heavy, but I have developed a pain in my elbow which wont go away. I am having it checked out at the doctor's tomorrow.

I didn't, and now I have chronic shoulder pain.

Good on you for recognizing the problem. It may be that you'll have to choose another way to raise your fitness level!

That's what i was afraid of. I'm sure you are right I have had this problem for years had an MRI and results came back good, but anything on my bench over 225lbs. and other weights on over head press exercises seem to always put it over the top. I have been a fitness instructor for years and would really like to bring myself to another level, but the shoulder always says stop.

If you're sure you are doing the exercises correctly andyou're not adding too much additional weight too quickly, then I'd recommend getting the pain checked out by your doctor. It's going to be difficult to build muscle if you can't increase the weight, and you should be able to slowly go up without pain. Pain is usually an indication that something is wrong.

I like to lift weights and want to go heavy, but every time i up weight and cut reps back to less than 12 reps it seems to create shoulder pain. How do you build mass with high reps?
