If it is pain, rather than just muscle soreness, you should definitely take things easy.

Sometimes some very light exercise (eg. walking) can help stay in the routine, without being too taxing on your body.

I woke up this morning to extreme pain in my upper back/lower back of neck. It hurts really bad, and I was wondering if I should still exercise or if I should skip the workout for today? I was planning on working out on my elliptical.
