Thanks for sharing this story. It's sad when people who are desperate to lose weight fall this type of advertising. If people would just say no to these ads the companies would not succeed. We must learn not to believe the hype.

"Sensa Products LLC made at least $364 million selling its products"
that's what I mean about a slap on the wrist. They claim to have spent much more than that on advertising, which I find hard to believe. It wouldn't make good business sense to spend MUCH more than you sell on advertising (you still have lots of other overhead costs, KWIM?)

"the FTC’s action against HCG Diet Direct — whose website was still up as of Tuesday afternoon — was suspended because it said the company couldn’t pay the $3.2 million judgment."
not much to say on that...SMH

sad. Very very sad.

Hope this is the start of the downfall of these "quick weight loss schemes"

Its a shame companies can operate for years raking in the big bucks before something can be done. Just goes to show we need to use some common sense when spending our hard earned money.

Well if you can prove you bought something from the companies in question you might be able to get a (small) piece of the settlement. The FTC doesn't keep the settlement money, it gives it back to the affected consumers.

glad to see SOMETHING was done, but I fear the fine is not enough to even be prohibitive for those companies.

people are so desperate to try anything. TONS of $ has been lost buying that crap.

Awesome they should be made to give the money back to people that purchased their product.

Sensa was fined $26 million for making false claims while the biggest company that pushes the HCG diet, HCG Diet Direct, was fined over $7 million for making false claims.
