Work is probably my number one, but my life is much more stress free than it was 2 years ago when I was at a job that absolutely drove me to the brink, a prolonged search for a new job, dealing with elderly family members and their eventual deaths and lots of student loan debt (yay - grad school). I honestly probably wasn't that far from a breakdown.

But I recognized my unhealthy situation, sought assistance, recommitted myself to healthy lifestyle (Jan. 2012) and removed myself from the bad situation by finding a new position after looking for most of a year. I find that the fitter that I am and the more that I exercise, the better I'm able to cope with life and stress.

I experienced the most stressful period of my life in my twenties. My family life was stressful and dysfunctional, and my boss, at the time, was so impossible that everyone else eventually quit, or asked to be transferred, until his 'team' was down to one...me. It severely impacted my physical health. When I look back now, I ask myself why I didn't CHANGE things before they got that bad. What was I so afraid of, that I would stay in those situations...as miserable as I was. Was it fear of the Unknown. Was it the idea that you didn't quit, you suffered through it and coped. But while I may have thought I was coping ...mentally...my body was responding...very negatively.

Happy to say...with a change of situation, my new boss...I found myself taking care of my health better, I lost a lot of weight. I exercised every chance I got. And I was able to let go of a lot of things that held me hostage. In the article I posted...they say to deal with stress you should change the situation: avoid or alter the stressor. I have found that that isn't always possible, it isn't always possible to walk away...even when you need to. They also say one should change their reaction to the stressor by adapting accepting the stressor. 35+ years later, I'm still working on that...getting better all the time.

Lol, EVERYTHING stresses me out!

And, yes, I do work at trying to change that.

my aging parents stress me out the most. they are set in their ways and immoveable in their beliefs, will not accept the changes with the times. I usually handle it by remembering they are old and will not be around for many more years and that I'll probably get there myself one day. Although I try really hard not to get too stuck in my ways I do like my routine.

This is the time of year when we try to clean up our acts and Detox.
I read an article this morning that mentioned how stress is one of those issues...almost everyone has some form of stress...
what it does to you depends on how you respond to it
{...and we all know how it affects emotional eating...}
