If I have a really really bad case of soda craving, I just say that I'll give into myself. But not without downing 16 oz. of water first (obviously this takes a bit of time). By then, if I still want it, I let myself have half a glass (pour out the rest of the soda so you're not tempted.) After a few weeks of this sillyness (Coke is expensive! Can't believe I buy it and pour it down the drain)...I usually just end up sticking with the remainder of my water bottle, since I already made it that far!

hang in there the longer you can go without a coke the better your chances are of kicking the habit for good... I quit drinking coke a while back and now I don't like the taste of coke.

I love sparkling flavored water. If you haven't tried any yet you should try some. They are a great alternative to soda if you are craving the fizz :) I am down to just coffee in the mornings as far as caffeine. It's hard to come off of it at first so you got to take baby steps.

Altus,

Are you going cold-turkey on this? If its the fizziness you miss, the above is a good starting place. But I found that extremely hard because I was craving the sugar and caffine. I weaned myself off of soda by starting with Rasberry Tea. Its sweet and caffinated. Then I started adding regular tea in to cut the sugar down. Eventually I got down to just regular tea in the AM and caffine-free tea after 2pm. Now I cant stand the taste of sodas.

I second the idea of the Izzy sodas or something like it. Or sparkling water.

Sometimes I'll also add club soda to 100% fruit juice for a fizzy drink.

If you'd like a healthy "fizzy" fix , how about sparkling flavored waters ? Poland Springs, Perrier, Whole Foods, etc... all make wonderful sparkling flavored waters that have no calories, no artificial sweeteners, no chemicals, etc...

I love Poland Spring lemon or lime sparkling water. it's a great way to still enjoy a fizzy fix without the chemicals.

Also, if you do go to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, you can find organic sodas that have no preservatives. Izzy is a really good brand of natural soda.

I have been three weeks no without drinking soda (I never drank diet I drank the full hi-octane coke. Today is really bad as I had to be at work 5 hours early for a very long very boring meeting. I'm trying to resist but the coke machine down the hall is looking very inviting.
