I make "oatmeal" with 1 tbsp of each ground almonds, ground chia seeds and ground flax seeds. Then add your preferred spices and lastly some boiling water to your desired consistency. Done. Gluten free and low carb.

I usually make my own "oatmeal" at home with any or all of the following. You could easily portion it out in baggies ahead of time in all different mixes. Quick oats or steel cut oats as a base + chopped fresh or dried fruit (apples, cherries, berries, peaches) + granola (you can find home-made at some farmer's markets or prepackaged varieties in stores) + nuts or seeds (flax seed, walnuts, sunflower seeds) + spices (ginger, cinnamon, clove)
Depending on the grain , especially if you have gluten allergies, any wholegrain would probably be useful...
Inches Inches Inches lost are more important to me than pounds... :) well POUNDS ARE STILL IMPORTANT NOT AS MUCH AS INCHES THOSE SHOW THE REAL PROGRESS AND THAT IS A HEALTHIER WAY TO MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT!!
I do like plain oatmeal but add natural peanut butter and raw honey. An alternative that I really like, though, is Bob's Red Mill Muesli. I add plain almond milk and a little raw honey. Very tasty and very filling. You can find it online or in the natural foods section at the grocery store.
Motivation will get you to the start line; discipline will get you to the finish.
Starting Weight: 264 (didn't get there overnight) Current Weight 129.4 (didn't get here overnight)
If you want gluten free oats...try Bob's Red Mill Oats or try Cream of Rice....not sure how of if these travel well.....

I used to make a LC alternative to oatmeal for travel - it had TVP and a bunch of stuff in it (but the baggies (or even an airtight container that you just scooped it out as needed) would work.
I usually travel with small tins of tuna, sardines and the like (tuna preferably, as it doesn't stink up the hotel room). If I have access to a grocery, I'll get something perishable like cheese or a bit of coffee cream for my oatmeal, and keep it in the ice bucket overnight (in a zipper bag so it doesn't get soggy). But, that's as far as I go for a non-refrigerator option - buy fresh, and only store overnight, when purchased late in the evening (those little containers of creamer you get at coffee shops, for instance)

Hard boiled eggs left out of a fridge for a couple days would set a person up for an emergency department trip. It is unsafe, and if it were practiced in food outlets in NZ those outlets could stand a good chance of being closed down.
The mention of Oatmeal in little bags with sultanas is good - other options you can use - chopped dates, prunes or flavoursome dried apricots.
I also sometimes use couscous and put ground almond meal in it, along with the chopped dates and a little ground cinnamon.. That is quite yummy, and just takes hot milk.

Greek yogurt cereal fruit Wrap with nut butter or scrambled eggs If you are thinking of GF then looking for some bread or wraps you could make a sandwich Chex offers a lot of gf and easily found you could have that with some milk and fruit

Green smoothies in a thermos are another option.

Food safety guidelines do not recommend leaving hard cooked eggs or cheese out at room temperature for 2-3 days. Please do not follow such advice.

I like the idea of making my own little oatmeal baggies....I might just try that. I'm thinking that might just be cheaper than the Nature's Path Organic Oatmeal that I bought today!!
I also like the idea of the boiled eggs.....I love eggs! The other day we made deviled eggs for a party and we baked the eggs Alton Brown style! So much easier!
And I will definitely checkout that HMR stuff!

Fun fact: the bags that the individual oatmeal servings come in actually hold water. I bring them and a lightweight stove on hiking trips so I can heat water and then have oatmeal right in the bag.
Also, hard boiled eggs last 2-3 days without a fridge as well as dried sausage and hard cheeses. You might want to check out backpacking blogs/sites for food ideas that are shelf stable and require little preparation.
what about zip-lock baggies with the oatmeal and a little sugar, cinnamon, raisins?? Then microwave with water.
HMR also makes some nice "shelf-stable" entrees that can be microwaved when you are ready to eat. You can pack in luggage, brief case. You can do a search for HMR for more info.

There are no rules that breakfast must be about breakfast foods. Think outside the box...could you carry a salad or a different dry cereal with some milk in a cooler?

I travel full time so I need foods that travel well and that are super duper easy to make. I've been eating instant oatmeal for years and it works well for traveling as well as it is super easy to make. But now I would like to find an alternative to oatmeal that does not have artificial flavoring in it. I've already tried eating regular flavored oatmeal......ewwwww! I am also contemplating trying to go gluten free.....although I haven't made up my mind 100% about that just yet.
