I self-diagnosed myself with insulin resistance when I couldn't lose weight on 1000 calories a day. Now I have lost 60 pounds by cutting down on carbs. It really does make a difference. Welcome to Spark. The trackers are the best thing for me!

WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Hello All: I moved to Indianapolis from Cincinnati 2 years ago and within a year I gained over 30 pounds. For most of my life I was extremely thin (possibly even too thin), but in my early 30's I started to gain a pound or so a year, mostly concentrated in my middle. After my move to Indy, the weight came on quickly, likely as a result of the stress of some major life changes. However, despite my best efforts, I found that the weight was not coming off. Finally a new doctor listened to my symptoms (fatigue, weight gain in middle area, intense cravings for carbs) and said that she suspected that I was insulin resistant. I was doubtful, but my lab work came back with insulin levels that were 2x above the normal value. I am now exercising everyday (well, almost every day) and I've changed my diet to one that is low in carbs and high in protein. Sugar has gone bye bye and so has white potatoes and rice. I've always been a health eater with regards to fruits and vegetables, but I've never met a French fry that I didn't like. I mainly use Spark People for the calorie and fitness trackers, but I would not mind connecting with friendly and supportive people.
