I have little faith in Spark's GPS/mapping based calculator - it produces some very weird results. The calculator built into the (non-mapping) fitness tracker seems to produce results that are much more realistic and internally consistent.
I went for a run this morning and out of interest decided to run BOTH the Sparkpeople GPS tracker as well as my normal Runkeeper app. When I got home I checked both and was shocked at the calorie burned difference calculated by both apps.
Runkeeper said I burned 347calories while SP said I burned 493calories! The time and speed of the run correlates in both apps and my weight is constant in both apps. All other variables are the same except for the calories burned.
Which app is more accurate? And why is there such a HUGE difference in the calories burned (I could understand a difference of around 50cal but 150cal??????)
