I'm 24 weeks and 4 days along. I was walking when I got pregnant but by going slow and listening to my body I have been able to increase what I'm doing! I jogged one of my mikes today with no pain and no problems. I think if you ease into it you will be fine! Plus exercise will help with labor and delivery. As far as eating junk all the time, it's not worth it. Eat as healthy as you can but don't feel bummed when you eat ice cream sometimes. I craved ice cream for a week. Then at the doctor they said the baby is measuring small. She must have needed some fat. But now I'm eating as healthy as I can again. Don't give up. Start small and endure those last weeks!!!

First of all, congratulations on the baby! Motherhood is the most wonderful job you never get a paycheck for doing. :)
It NEVER hurts to make healthy food choices, pregnant or not. As far as "starting" anything new, I'm pretty sure the doctor would approve prenatal yoga and light weight training, provided that you are not having any complications. I went to the gym with a woman that worked out all the way until her due date, doing light weights, walking, mommy yoga, etc. As soon as the doctor gave her the okay, she started taking the baby to the gym with her and doing mommy and me classes. I wanted to strangle her. :) She was an overacheiver with a heart of gold that DID IT ALL.
Continue making healthy food choices and talk to your doctor about a light workout program you can do. Good luck!!
I wasn't trying to be judgmental at all, I know you didn't accuse me of it, but just so you are sure! I understand your concern about changing your diet. I don't think you should lower your calorie intake below what you need to maintain and gain healthfully. I think there are sites that can help you calculate that, if I remember correctly from when I was pregnant. When I say making healthy choices, I definitely don't mean anything that would be resemble "dieting." When I was pregnant the first time, I was not very active. My second pregnancy I incorporated a walk everyday and I actually felt much better! Good luck! You're almost there!
izzys mom, thank you for your non-judgemental response. i am not a terrible eater, and am afraid reverting to a 100% healthy diet change will result in weight loss that wont be good for my baby. i did not come here to be judged(not saying you were)and was hoping to find other pregnant mothers to talk with. i joined babyfit.com and it seems as if there are only a handful of active members and the site is set up a bit different than sparkpeople.
i did not say it would be better to eat "crap" for 3 more months. i eat what i call "normal". mix of healthy, but i dont forgo fast food restaurants either. my son is 2 and with him, yes i DID eat crap and he prefers veggies, so i think those studies are somewhat bull. i dont appreciate the judgmental tone in your response. after baby, i would like to cut ALL junk. grease, fats, sugars. okay so not all, but all sugars from things like cake etc. im afraid doing this while pregnant will make me lose weight and while i am overweight to begin with, i dont think losing weight at this point in my pregnancy is healthy for my baby. as it is, i havent gained as much as some medical professionals think i should have by now.
I think the best thing you can do for your baby is eat healthy while you are pregnant and get some light daily exercise in. I think any doctor would agree that working on being healthy would only benefit both you, your baby, and your entire family (rub off effect).

let's use some logic here..you think it's better to eat crap for 3 more months because you shouldn't try anything new??!?!
studies have shown that babies' taste preferences are largely determined in utero, so if you eat junk during your pregnancy, your baby will have a taste for it from birth.
And as for exercise, I have attended classes taught by prenatal exercise experts who say that you can start gentle exercise (walking), even during the 3rd tri if you have been cleared by your medical provider.
I am 6 months pregnant and have put off getting healthy before. I'm not sure why, but at this point in my life, I am 100% committed to healthy changes. I know it can't "hurt me" to eat healthy and everything, but have also been told not to start anything new when you're pregnant. Anyone else going through this? I need support and people to talk to. I have only gained 6 lbs so far, and weigh about 210 lbs. After baby, I don't really have a "goal" weight. I just want to be healthy. I would also like to fit into my jeans pre-1st baby(he's almost 2). I think my weight was about 175, but I also think if I was more toned, the pants might fit before I was at that weight. The LOWEST I would ever want to go is 155. Personally, I feel I would look weird smaller than that.
