I did not do well with my first pregnancy. It was 5 years ago. I'm ready to try again and trying to lose weight now. I talked to my ob and he and I have a diet and exercise plan worked out. Make sure you are taking care of you and keep your OB informed.

I exercised too. All the way until a day I gave birth. I just had to readjust my exercise routine. I used to run a lot prior getting pregnant. Instead I started taking spinning classes but I wasn't following instructor. I just did my own thing. He he - i even had to call my gym and cancel my class when i was in labour ( my son did arrive little bit early)

If you cant exercise - just walk! Will be good for you and a baby.

I am 33 and am 9 weeks Post Partum. I understand your worries and concerns!! Im sure you will be fine if you get pregnant-just make sure to attend all of your OB visits and instructions from your docs!! I am only 5-3 and got up to 240 pounds and had a very smooth and easy delivery --She was my 4th baby but 1st one in 10 years!! I would advise you to exercise the entire way so that the delivery part is not so hard on your body!! See a nutritionist and take your vitamins!! Like you said you arent getting younger!! Every pregnancy is different and even the youngest, most fit women can have a complitcated pregnancy/delivery while vice versa!! I wish you the best and lots of lots of baby dust :)-Crystal

Have you joined Babyfit ? That's the Spark People website for members who are pregnant.

One thing you might do is ask some other members if they've been in a similar situation as yours. They may have some insight. I know that most doctors recommend a woman lose weight prior to becoming pregnant. However, I know there are mixed opinions on whether or not a woman should lose while she is pregnant.

Yes, I have spoke with my OB she has the "ready for anything stance" that's great, but it's her job. She has had more concerns about me putting off pregnancy over the last 5 years then anything.
I don't really have anyone close to talk about this with since all of my friends and family were in their early to mid 20's when they were having their first babies. I tend to avoid broad google searches about such things because there is so much conflicting information and not much for real life experience.

Hi,

Have you talked with your OB/GYN about your concerns? He/she would be able to give you specifics as to whether or not this is the best time for you.

HI All
I just need some reassurance that despite the fact I'm older (38), heavy and as a result have elevated blood pressure (I have white coat panic too so my BP is higher at the doctors then normal) that I am making a good choice to be both trying to loose weight and conceive at the same time. I know most women have fears and doubts but I am so disappointed in myself that I have gained so much weight back over the last 2 years but I can't hold off trying to have a baby, I'm not getting younger, that I'm scared to death!
