I would not recommend anything more strenuous than walking 30 minutes a day. You want to give your abdominal fascia time to heal, to reduce your risk of herniation or wound dehiscence. I am a surgical technologist and from time to time we get post-surgery patients back in the OR who tried to do too much too soon...

Of course, this is coming from the same person who started doing Turbo Jam (a dancey kickboxing type workout) 5 weeks post-cesarean... I was that desperate to lose the baby weight! (Which I never did lose, LOL, and that was almost 5 years ago!) But I wasn't a surgical tech at the time...

Well, I can't talk to him for another week and a half. I'll just keep walking and add going up and down the stairs, since both were recommended. I just was wondering if there were some arm exercises that didn't involve weights that were still useful. I won't actually need a physical therapist--it was a hysterectomy with 5 laproscopic openings and one 4" slice. They just recommend taking it easy for six weeks but not sitting around. Nothing wrong with walking, so walking it shall be! Thanks

Without the all-clear, we can't responsibly give you any recommendations. Ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist, who can design a program when you're ready that takes your surgical needs into account.

I had abdominal surgery two weeks ago, and face another month of restrictions. I'm walking half an hour a day, but would like to add some other exercise. Only allowed to lift 5 lbs in the meantime, and want to avoid anything that involves abdominals till I get the all-clear. Any suggestions?
