I asked for people's experiences more because I wanted more evidence based rather than, "I looked in the mirror and don't think I lost/am losing lean mass."

My bodyfat scale shows fat loss along with some lean mass, so just didn't know if it was possible to avoid losing lean. I would say not due to the fact there is a calorie deficit in general.

That certainly true, I have been trying my best to make sure I don't lose very much muscle but I'm sure I have. That said my clothes are fitting loose, almost to the point where I have to pull out all my "skinny" clothes again, LOL!!!!

KJ,

My guess is that people haven't responded because she asked for personal experience from those who have been able to lose fat without losing muscle, and that's almost impossible.

Anytime you lose weight, some of that loss is going to come from muscle. You can minimize that by regular strength training, losing weight slowly, etc. But you can't eliminate it.

Hope that helps,
Coach Jen

I'm not any kind of expert...but common sense would dictate that if you exercise daily, and cut calories, you'll lose weight, but keep a lean muscle mass. Works for me anyway! :)

This thread and it's lack of response, is proof that most spark people aren't interested in solid weightloss discussion. Not even a clarification question like; what the heck is this about.

IDK, maybe I'm wrong.

HA! That's exACTLY where I'm at right now. I have lost 10 FAT pounds since November but not size on my muscle mass.

It's freakin hard to do. No real cardio just walking otherwise my body eat the better tasting muscle than fat, lol!

Is it possible to lose fat without losing any lean mass at all? I don't mean theoretically, I mean have you done it, like as evidenced from body fat% measurements etc?

It seems like because of a calorie deficit in general a person would end up losing some lean mass too along with fat, even if a small amount.
