Muffins are basically cake baked in muffin tins. Sure they put in a few "healthy" ingredients like fruit but they are loaded with oil and sugar. Calorie time bombs. Muffins always leave me feeling bloated and yet a couple of hours later I am ravenous. Quick and easy and they taste great but just not worth the calories.

I love Dunkin Donuts lemon poppyseed muffins, but I do not eat them anymore since they are so high in calories. It makes me very sad!!!

I recall those days of eating a whole muffin. Without realizing that it could be 500 calories.

Have you tried the "bean" breads and muffins you can make from canned beans? I made a dozen chocolate black bean muffins last week, 67 calories each and minimal fat/carbs, out of black beans. Filling and really tasty. Hard to believe there is no flour in it. I think I even saw a lemon poppy seed version...

Muffins were one of my biggest disappointments when I made the sad discovery that "calories" not only existed, but actually applied to *me*! There just don't seem to be any commercial muffins that aren't incredibly high in calories and fat for what you actually get.
The good thing is that they are one of the easiest things to make yourself, with much healthier ingredients, and in all different configurations. I just finished a banana muffin, loaded with steel-cut oats and dark chocolate chips and toasted almonds and raisins for only 154 calories (30g carbs / 4g fat / 3g protein) - THAT I can live with...
